I have two cats who need a little bit of help getting up on the couch/bed/chair. I figured I’d start with one and if they liked it, I would get one or two more. Unfortunately, I overestimated the intelligence level of my cats. They cannot figure out how to use the steps to get onto the couch! One will sit right by the steps, and then jump up onto the couch without using them. The other one won’t go anywhere near it. I tried putting treats on the steps, figuring they would walk up the steps to get the treats…. Nope! But even though I can’t get my cats to use it, it seems like a good product. It was simple enough to put together. Its sturdy and the foam is thick and durable. It’s definitely made for cats or smaller dogs.
On the good side, steps are easy to pick up and move to different locations, cover removes easily for washing. On the bad side, the foam in the steps is quite soft and my dog seems unsure of them, even though I’ve spent a good amount of time working with him. The bottom step is also quite narrow and there’s not room for all four feet. So if you dog takes it step by step these won’t work . My dog is a senior and takes things slow. He’s around 13 pounds and about 10 inches high at the shoulders.
The best I can say is that these little steps are the right height to help Marigold get onto my platform bed, but she has yet to use it. I think it's poorly made; the top step unfolds and the cover needs to be pulled up to fit over it. The spongy material is wimpy. I think ltiile wooden steps would be far better, similar to the kind you get for a toddler to reach the sink.
My 15 yr old cat has been using since we got them. Bed is high so he still has about a foot to jump up but has learned to do it. It is sturdy even though foam which is good for his arthritic legs. Very happy with purchase. Would buy again!
I love my new stairs. I used to have to use an old ice cooler with a towel so I didn’t slip. Now I have my own way into bed without worrying Daddy will stub his toes.
These dog stairs are just too small for our 16 lb and 19 lb Havanese dogs. They are nice and plush and could be fine for some smaller dogs or cats if weighted to not wobble. But they are just too small for us and we plan to return them.
I'm a 20 year old feline and in good health. I broke my left rear leg in April. My p's got me these great steps and while I can no longer jump, I can reach my favorite places. Love them!! They make my life easier.
I have one set downstairs and the other one upstairs! The covers are very easy to remove for washing and putting back on! Just the right height for my 2 Jacks who have shorty legs.
Our girl, Luna, has a luxating patella so I thought it would be ideal to give her assistance getting on the couch or bed. When she tried to jump up to the couch the step would slip backwards. The step was too short for our bed. I do not consider either issue to be a defect in any way whatsoever. The steps themselves were sturdy and fit perfectly with the colors in our home! I would recommend. Since I got two I will be donating the to our local shelter. A win-win all the way around.
My 16 year old cat with arthritis really appreciates these steps. I have one of these in each room for her. Soft steps, except they could have a little wider instep for her to be more comfortable with it, but she manages.
