Their small, dedicated team proudly handcrafts Ziwi in small batches each day. With a passion for pets around the world, they are driven to put the very best of their New Zealand home into every recipe.

Free-Range, Grass-Fed

All ingredients are sourced from the green, free-range farms and blue, pristine oceans of New Zealand. Meats are sourced from humane, ethical and sustainably managed local farms. And fish is caught in the southern oceans of New Zealand, strictly managed to ensure maximum sustainability.

Air-Dried Recipes

Ziwi naturally preserves their dry dog and cat food by air-drying it, eliminating the need for artificial preservatives, salts, sugars or glycerines. Their slow, gentle, twin stage air-drying process results in a food that's as nutrient-dense and digestible as a completely raw diet, but safe and clean to handle, and can store for up to 21 months. A little goes a long way, the recipes are so packed with the good stuff

Moist Meal Options

Ziwi has moist dog and cat food recipe options too, Ziwi implements a small batch canning process to deliver high meat and moisture-rich recipes at higher can weights using the same free-range proteins that can be stored for up to three years.

Only the Good Stuff

Made with your pet's health in mind, Ziwi is made with absolutely no grains, corn, wheat, soy, rice, rendered meats, animal meals, meat by-products, cheap filler ingredients, starches like white potatoes and sweet potatoes, ethoxyquin, pea protein, salt, sugar, glycerine, artificial flavors or colors, antibiotics, growth hormones, or ingredients from China. Just pure New Zealand goodness that helps your pet thrive.

Happy Joints, Happy Pets

All Ziwi recipes include 3% New Zealand Green-Lipped Mussels, a natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin which support long-term joint health. The Green-Lipped Mussel may only be found in New Zealand, where it is farmed using ecologically-sustainable practices.

About Ziwi

As an innovator and global leader of air-dried nutrition, ZIWI is proudly crafted at their 100% owned kitchens located in beautiful New Zealand in the small coastal town of Mount Maunganui on the North Island and the rolling hills of Christchurch on the South Island. Ziwi's mission is to deliver pet food and treats that are carefully crafted to mirror the whole-prey, meat-rich diet that dogs and cats need for a long, happy, healthy life.

Questions & Answers

Has there been a study as to the mercury content of this mackerel?
Answer by ChewyMar 01, 2021
The Blue Mackerel used is on the Ministry of Primary Industries list of seafood’s which have been confirmed to have very low levels of mercury. From Ziwi's information the mercury level of the Blue Mackerel we use is below 0.5 ppm. There is no problem in year-round feeding of any of their fish products. The mercury levels have been tested and are not of concern. The fish that ZIWI uses are smaller and lower down the food chain, thus don’t have the same risks around accumulation of mercury that some of the larger, more predatory or slower growing species have.

Not A Hit In My House

I bought a few different recipes from this brand thinking this one would be a huge hit since both of my cats really love fish. I surprisingly had the least success with this one. It's extremely dry for a wet food, mixing in water is a must. My picky cat won't even lick it, my "I eat anything" cat will kind of eat it a little but then leave it waiting for their dry food to be put down. Maybe it's the mackerel (prior to this they've only had salmon or tuna) but, whatever it is, no likey. Especially for the price, I would not buy this again.

Oh, dear, Babette wants no part of this food!!

We received a sample of this product from Ziwi Peak, which my cat devoured. When we received the case of 24 3oz. cans of Mackerel, it was completely different. The smell, color, texture and evidently, the taste, were not the same!! Babette took a bite and would not return for more, even after offering it over two days as the company suggested. We even tried adding warm water to bring back the scent, but she won't eat it. Babette has never been finicky, she loves her food. We really had high hopes for this one!! This was an expensive disappointment. Thank goodness, Chewy stands by their products.

Best Cat Food

Honest appraisal here.....I have to mix in Ziwi Mackerel Recipe with a lesser brand that is a combined cod, sole, and shrimp. I use about 1.5 tablespoons of Ziwi Mackerel for this particular cat because Ziwi is complete - it meets all needs. Spooky is the outdoor cat that loves this mixture. Since I began feeding her this mixture, Spooky's coat shines - even in the dark. Her eyes are clear and she walks better. Spooky is a kept stray that allows me to pet her about once every three weeks. lol

High Quality - Cats Obsessed

Highest praise for this food. Great ingredients. My cats go nuts for it, only complaint in the price, but that's what comes with high-quality food. My cats have had much smaller stools substituting this food than they had on just a kibble diet. If I've got the budget, will gladly continue to purchase this food.

Great Chioce

First time trying this food and we sure picked the right one! Our boy is a fish lover and he took to this without any hesitation at all. Will be trying some other varieties

Food was old.

They love the mackerel &lamb

Flavor is a hit, but the cans are very hard to open. Doesn't have any liquid, so a solid mass. No fillers, which I love.

Ahhh wish they liked it more

So i got this cuz I wanted my five reprobate kittens to eat something good for them. One of the five loved it. Two ate some of it. After cussing them all out for not liking it more I said “fine, eat it or not, but you are not getting anything else until this is gone.” By the next morning it was gone. Kitties, whatcha gonna do?
