How many watts has the pump?

How often does the filter media need to be replaced? Where can I get the replacement filters?

Answer by ChewyJun 23, 2023
This three-stage external aquarium filter uses mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration. The carbon should be replaced once a month, the ceramic media should only be changed if it is restricting water flow (it can be rinsed each month), and the sponges can be rinsed monthly but only need to be changed if they cannot be cleaned or if they start to break down. Replacement parts are available through the manufacturer's website.

How many GPH does this filter do?

Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2022
This canister filters 80 Gallons Per Hour (GPH).

Can you use this for a turtle tank??

Answer by ChewyJun 07, 2022
You can use the External Nano filter for a turtle tank, just keep in mind the amount of water you are using with your turtle and choose the filter accordingly.

Bought this item in May 2025 my previous Zoo Med died on me before the year. This canister filter didn't make it the year. It started gushing out water from the side. Not sure what happened. Have it in a bucket now. Had to purchase a new canister filter at the local shop. Should have just gotten the Fluval from the start it was only $20 more.

Canister filters tend to be expensive. This one is on the cheaper end and i got the 30 over the 10 for my 10 gallon tank to get more filter surface area. The reason for my 4 star is the intake is not fry friendly. I have also had fish deaths because even with just the standard strainer it got clogged and there was barely any flow. This js more user error and i added an air stone to compensate in case the intake gets clogged. I did swap out the carbon pouch it came with for purigen topped with some cheap filter floss. Overall great for the price and has everything you need to set it up. It is also super quiet.

The unit is very quiet. And the water looks so good. My red eared slider turtle has been more active and happier since we started using this water filter. When using the smaller one we had on the inside of the tank the water never looked as good as it does now, except when we first filled it up after cleaning the tank. Love this product so far.

Invest in a better canister

The flow rate is so low, I don't feel like it's filtering much at all. There's also been some leakage, so I'm nervous to leave it running. Had high hopes, but it

Looks like quality is good

No complaints here. Shipped quickly and was exactly as described. Seems very sturdy and I have no doubt will last a long time on my rimless 10 gallon high tech setup
