I've used many different fly sprays and regularly use UltraShield Red and Black but this Gold is super effective! Everything else barely lasts 1 day but this is effective a good 48 hours in the steamy, wet south. It repels everything including those enormous vicious horse flys. I bought it for my retired pasture pet and it's the first bite free summer he's ever had. I will note that it attracts dust and dirt and gives the coat an almost greasy feel. Because of that, I do not use it on my gray dressage mare (use Black and Red) but it's awesome protection for my retiree. I highly recommend for retirees, youngsters, broodmares, trail horses, really anyone except competition horses because of the dust and dirt sticking on. I'll guess that property has something to do with why it's so darn good.

One of the most effective bug sprays for horses

The aroma is unappealing. Similar to Ecovet but not quite as strong-smelling. Efficacy seems to rival Ecovet. Bought the gallon refill jug this time.

I will start off by saying I’ve been using the black UltraShield for many years now and it worked well enough. When I ran out of my last gallon of black I decided to give the gold a try since the bugs here in central Texas have been malicious. It works really well!!! It being a thicker formula helps keep it from just turning to mist in the breeze, so it actually gets on the horse. The biggest downside is the fragrance is nose burning. My gelding usually sneezes when I’m spraying him down, and if untied he’ll walk away, something he didn’t do with the black. If the fragrance could be toned down a bit it would definitely be a 5 star for me.

My horse broke out in widespread hives. I wouldn’t describe him as sensitive skinned, we haven’t had a notable reaction to a product before. The fly spray was the only new product added and the hives showed up about 3-4 days after starting use. The product is quite oily, which as others have mentioned helps ensure it’s getting on the horse and not just blowing away, but also creates a buildup and dust sticks to it so my horse got so grimy after only a couple days. Switched back to the Ultrashield black!

I was skeptical or not whether this would live up to what it claims to do, it’s also a newer released product and haven’t heard too much about it. I finally decided to buy a small bottle for my gelding who’s super sensitive to the mosquitoes that have all arrived. And wow, I’ve used been using it the past couple days, not a single fly bothering him, and not a single new mosquito bite!! RELIEF!! This stuff works!! And a bonus that it smells pretty good in my opinion. I’ll be buying a couple gallons!!

Best fly spray

I bought this to try after reading about the new technology. I used it and then rode into the woods. It did honestly seem like the flys were super confused. Recommend

I bought this to try after reading about the new technology. I used it and then rode into the woods. It did honestly seem like the flys were super confused. Recommend wearing good bug spray for yourself because they seemed even more set on my while leaving my horse alone. Is oil based so I don’t use for shows and worked even better when I followed the instructions. My new favorite fly spray!

Maybe this works better than other fly sprays, I don't know. What I do know is that the residue makes your horse a gummy, disgusting mess. Everything sticks to the horse's skin. I just wasted a lot of money. Stick to the regular Ultra Shield fly spray.
