ACANA foods, including ACANA Highest Protein, Appalachian Ranch Recipe, are Biologically Appropriate recipes containing up to approximately 95% meat, poultry, or fish ingredients, of which one half to two thirds are fresh or raw. Because they use fresh or raw ingredients, the extrusion process is the most suitable method, allowing these ingredients to be cooked only once. During extrusion, the ingredients are cooked in their own steam at approximately 198-240 °F. The temperatures they use are low enough to maintain the nutritional integrity of the ingredients, but still high enough to ensure food safety.
