Precautions

HAZARDS TO ANIMALS: Some caged birds are known to have sensitive respiratory systems (in particular Psittacines: parrots, budgerigar, etc.). Therefore, as a precaution, we recommend plugging in the diffuser in a different room. HAZARDS TO HUMANS: Do not plug-in the diffusers under shelves or behind doors, curtains or furniture. To function properly, the diffuser must not be obstructed in any way.

FAQ

What pheromone is in Adaptil?

The pheromone released in Adaptil is a synthetic copy of the pheromone secreted by a mother dog after birth to provide reassurance to her puppies.

Is Adaptil as effective in adult dogs as it is in puppies?

Research has demonstrated that the reassuring properties of the dog-appeasing pheromone are effective for dogs of all ages.

Can I use Adaptil with a young puppy?

Yes, it is useful to start using Adaptil with your puppy as soon as he is adopted. Adaptil is clinically proven to help dogs adjust more quickly to their new homes and also helps them feel safe and secure to help increase their focus during training. This helps them develop into well-adjusted and well-behaved adult dogs.

  • Really works

    By on

This product has taken the anxiety away from my dog's lives! They are less clingy, less afraid, and more relaxed overall. Fireworks were not as stressful this year and greetings are getting better and better. Combining this diffuser with training is the most effective strategy. My dogs are still learning how to be around company but this has helped reduce the intensity of their nervous reactions about 85%! This did take about 2 weeks to show signs of working, but continues to calm them daily. I only wish the refills lasted a full month (I also unplug it at night) and that the diffuser wasn't so expensive initially and when it needs replacing in a few months.

  • It worked, but not alone

    By on

I hate saying that this seemed to have some effect. Our rescue dog developed severe separation anxiety after the first time we boarded him. I was willing to try this as it’s used at our vet’s office but I also added a lot of other interventions at once, including anxiety meds. The first bottle ran out this weekend and the last 2 days without it were the first in a few weeks that he tried to eat the door when we left. So I went and bought a refill. Hard to say that it would work alone for our dog, but seems to help in some way.

  • Not Effective for Noise Anxiety

    By on

Though it sounds great, and has some good reviews, our 45 lb rescue (8 yrs old) was not helped when this was plugged in for hours, in a small room with a fan to help diffuse. T-Storms and fireworks are no less difficult for her with the unit doing its job. We have fallen back on specific Rx drugs with prompt uptake and a 2 hour+ window of effectiveness (Sileo gel and buspirone), and a thunder coat for the 4th or for bigger storms.

  • Diffuser plus collar

    By on

I use the Adaptil diffuser plus the Adaptil collar and both seem to work in calming my dog. I've used the collar for the past 2 months and the diffuser for 1 month. My pup is not 100% better, but much better than when I didn't use either product. I'd say she is 75% - 80% better. My pet sitter noticed the difference as well. I notice that my dog is much more playful and will play fetch for quite a long period of time! She still loves to cuddle and enjoys her walks. She obeys my commands and doesn't try to fight it. Before, she'd tug on the leash and insist on going in her chosen direction. Now, I say no and redirect her and she follows my lead. She's not doped up or lethargic. She still has some stressful moments but these moments are less frequent and when it happens, it ends soon after I reassure her that everything will be alright. … more

  • Electric dog diffuser

    By on

Unfortunately, it hasn't seemed to help Kitzy, yet anyway. I have had to put her back on an antidepressant, but I think because of her age, almost 14, there may be a thyroid issue going on as well. I still have it plugged in! Maybe it is helping her hyper younger brother, somewhat?

  • Did not work for my dog

    By on

It's been about a month since the passing of one of my Chihuahuas. My remaining pup has developed severe anxiety from being left alone without him. Tried the diffuser and it's been almost a month with no changes or success. She is still as stressed as ever and still having anxiety pee accidents in her cage. No underlying health conditions to account for issues either. This product wasn't for my pup.

  • More relaxed dog

    By on

My dog is an anxious dog. With the adaptil diffuser she’s becoming a more cool, calm, and collected dog. When we go to the vet, they spray adaptil in the room and it seems to help having the exam room smell a little like home.

  • Actually Works!

    By on

I just got a 60 lbs lab/husky mix from the Humane Society less than a week ago. He'a a sweetie and got super attached to me quickly. Any time I left he'd go crazy. He BROKE the crate I had gotten for him. Like?? My bff is a vet tech and she recommended this product. I was HIGHLY skeptical because not even melatonin was calming him down. But now?? He's calm and quiet when I leave. Honestly amazed.

  • Adaptil not effective

    By on

Bought the plug in and my dog still didn’t calm down nor lessen the barking. Could be related to other factors. I even plugged it into his crate. $30 down the drain. Would try again for less price hoping more than one dose is good.
