Description

Your furry friend must have a current heartworm test result on file with your veterinarian in order to be prescribed heartworm medication. Please visit your veterinarian to have this test performed annually to protect your four-legged friend. Advantage Multi for Cats is a broad-spectrum topical solution prescribed by veterinarians to provide pet parents with a convenient monthly application to help protect their cat or ferret from pesky parasites. This easy-to-use solution works to kill adult fleas, treat and control ear mites, roundworm and hookworms—it may also help to prevent heartworm disease in some cats and ferrets.

Uses

Advantage Multi for Cats is indicated for the prevention of heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria Immitis in cats and ferrets 2 pounds or over. Advantage Multi for Cats kills adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and is indicated for the treatment of flea infestations.

Possible Side Effects

Contact your veterinarian if your cat or ferret experiences pruritus/scratching, scabbing, redness, wounds and inflammation at the treatment site; lethargy; and chemical odor.

Drug & Food Interactions

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your pet is taking before starting this medication.

Precautions

Do not dispense dose applicator tubes without complete safety and administration information. Avoid oral ingestion. The safety of Advantage Multi for Cats has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating cats or ferrets. The effectiveness of Advantage Multi for Cats against heartworm infections (D. immitis) after bathing has not been evaluated in cats. Use of this product in geriatric pets with subclinical conditions has not been adequately studied. Several otherwise healthy, thin geriatric cats experienced prolonged lethargy and sleepiness after using this drug.

FAQ

How often can I use Advantage Multi for Cats?

Use monthly (every 30 days), year-round, to kill fleas; treat flea infestations; treat and control ear mites, hookworms and roundworms; and prevent heartworm disease.

When should I put Advantage Multi for Cats on my cat?

You should apply Advantage Multi for Cats monthly (every 30 days), all year-round.

How do I apply Advantage Multi for Cats?

Do not apply to irritated skin.

  • Remove one dose applicator tube from the package.
  • While holding the tube in an upright position, remove the cap from the tube.
  • Turn the cap over and push the other end of the cap onto the tip of the tube.
  • Twist the cap to break the seal and then remove cap from the tube.
  • Part the hair on the back of the cat's neck at the base of the head, until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and apply the entire contents directly on the exposed skin. Lift the tube away from skin before releasing pressure on the tube.

Do not get this product in the cat's mouth or eyes or allow the cat to lick the application site for 30 minutes. Treatment at the base of the head will minimize the opportunity for ingestion by grooming.

How old does my cat have to be to use Advantage Multi for Cats?

Advantage Multi for Cats can be used on cats at least 9 weeks old, weighing at least 2 pounds. The small cat size (5.1-9 lbs.) can be used for ferrets that weigh at least 2 pounds.

Does Advantage Multi for Cats expire?

Advantage Multi for Cats does have an expiration date that can be found on the bottom edge of the package. Advantage Multi for Cats should not be used past its expiration date.

Does Advantage Multi for Cats kill ticks?

No. Advantage Multi for Cats helps provide broad-spectrum protection against fleas, ear mites, roundworms, hookworms and heartworms. If you are concerned about ticks, Bayer has effective products that treat and prevent tick infestations.

How does Advantage Multi for Cats work to kill fleas?

Advantage Multi for Cats is applied to the pet's skin. The active ingredient spreads over your cat's body to kill fleas through contact so they do not have to bite your cat to die.

What if I miss an Advantage Multi for Cats heartworm treatment?

Life happens. If you forget or miss a dose, simply treat your cat immediately. Advantage Multi for Cats is heartworm prevention that forgives if you forget. It kills newly acquired heartworm larvae (baby worms) throughout the month to prevent further infection. After a single dose, if you forget and go more than 30 days in between treatments, just treat immediately and resume your monthly schedule.

    Once a month

This is our first cat in twenty years. She has been a delightful addition to our family. When giving this application, she isn’t so sweet, but it is a quick way to protect her against infection from fleas and other pests

Godsend for my blue point siamese

    By on

My poor boy had been suffering from dermatitis. He had scabs and a rash all over his body. After multiple trips to the vet they finally suggested this. I cannot believe how well it worked. No more rashes, no more scabs! I will never use frontline again. It’s completely worthless compared to this. Yes, it’s a little spendy but at least my boy isn’t suffering anymore and is back to his usual self, and to me that’s priceless. I recommend this to anyone who has a fur baby suffering from fleas or flea allergy dermatitis!

Used for Roundworms + Ear Mites

    By on

I adopted 3 kittens that were all outside weeks before and needed socialization. These meds were not so easy to dose initially, even if they were sleeping or eating - they were on high alert. I don’t have any experience with roundworms, ear mites, or giardia, but 2/3 had all three. I used this to treat the roundworms and ear mites for 3 months in a row. And it was honestly really hard to dose a couple of them... they did feel the liquid on their necks instantly and did not like it. Plus it dries and stays as a greasy oil on their fur for a day or so after. I was always afraid another cat was going to try to clean him/ aka lick it, and they have but they quickly regret it bc it tastes terrible I adopted 3 kittens that were all outside weeks before and needed socialization. All seem to be doing really well and this is month 4. I just wish there were set instructions for how long to treat parasites. My cats are indoor only now so I don’t want to keep giving them chemicals if they don’t need them. I heard 3 months from one person at my vet and then 6 months from another. I’m trying 3 since I figure one dose kills the worms, 2nd kills the eggs, and 3rd kills remaining eggs if any. … more

    Works as described

    By on Top 100 Contributor

My kitties have been using this product for many years and it certainly takes care of the fleas. I have indoor cats only, however, the thought of a flea hitchhiking on me from the outdoors and making my cat a new home puts me on edge. This product ensures no stray fleas set up home on my babies. I put the product on my cats the first of each month.

    This product does it all!

    By on

My cats hate taking pills, so this is the perfect alternative! It couldn't be easier. Since cats nap so much, it's simple to apply to the back of their heads/ neckline while asleep. They don't even wake up. All parasite tests are negative, so I feel confident they are protected!

    Works great but...

My only complaint is that one of the doses was empty. So we had to go to the local pet store to buy something that didn't include heart worm medication. :(

    excellent product

    By on

As a retired veterinarian, I definitely recommend Advantage Multi for cat owners. It is excellent flea and heartworm protection as well as effective against ear mites, lice or scabies. It does take several hours to dry and it does have a larger volume per dose than several other products.

Got my first prescription home delivery. Loved that I didn't have to go to the vet to get it. Chewy did that for me. Very convenient.

Why have to get 3 different products to protect your cat! I hated trying to get a pill down my cat... so did my hands & arms! Drops on her & done!
