Why did Chewy rebrand this product?

Answer by ChewySep 24, 2025
It’s always been Chewy made — now it’s Chewy named. For years, we’ve designed, developed, and cared for these recipes with the same love and expertise we bring to everything at Chewy. By putting our name on the bag, we’re making it even clearer that these are Chewy’s very own trusted products, built for life with pets. The only change Chewy is making is to the name and packaging. These foods will now carry the Chewy brand. You’ll notice a fresh look on the bag, but rest assured — the recipes, ingredients, and flavors your pet loves remain the same.

On your screenshot above, the rear packaging under FEEDING GUIDELINES states: "For Maximum Freshness, Refrigerate After Opening". I just received my package, and nowhere does it state this. Did something change? Was an added preservative added?

Answer by ChewySep 18, 2025
While there has not been a formula change in treats previously called American Journey Jerky Grain-Free Dog Treats, now Chewy Brand Limited Ingredient Jerky, we encourage customers to refrigerate after opening to help extend the quality and freshness of the product.

Where is the turkey sourced from? I understand it is made in the USA, but where does the turkey come from?

Answer by ChewyJul 01, 2019
The turkey for these treats is sourced in the United States.

How should you store the jerky once it has been opened?

Answer by ChewyAug 29, 2024
These treats can be stored in a cool, dry place but for optimum freshness after opening, it is best to store these treats in your refrigerator.

My dog loves these jerky treats, along with the chicken and beef flavors. However, I have noticed that the pieces of jerky for the turkey and chicken have become real small. The small pieces are like crumbs and almost not make it worth the money. Why have the pieces from this manufacturer gotten so much smaller?

my dog is a Giant Schnauzer and she is not impressed with these treats, i am going to look for something softer and easier to chew on. I use jerky treats when I am out on a walk with my dog, break them up in to bite size pieces to give her when we are out and about but still my dog has been turning her nose up at them so they need to improve the texture of these to be softer to chew on until then, we will look for something else.

How soft it is so that Nugget could eat it.

Some of the jerky treats are to hard for Nugget. He is 15yrs and missing teeth due to a large tumor in his mouth. They would have to remove a large part of his jaw

Lots of tiny pieces

My dogs liked the taste of the jerky treats but the package seemed small and everything was broken into a lot of very small pieces.

My Dog Loves This Stuff!!

American Journey Beef Jerky has been our ‘go to’ for years. It’s recently been out of stock so we opted for the Chicken and Turkey varieties. Verdict is in: my dog

The jerky arrived broken into small pieces, too small to be used as chew treats, and small enough to possibly cause choking. My two dogs liked the taste, but the only use I could find for them was to chop them into small pieces to add to their food. I won’t buy them again.

Actual turkey meat

These jerky treats are the real deal. Refrigerate them when the package has been opened so.that they don't harden.
