Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:
Always talk with your veterinarian about any concerns you have about your pets health so they can prescribe a treatment for your pets unique needs.

My cat suffers from FHS and was put on this medication 4 or 5 years ago. I had been getting her Rx filled at a local pharmacy, but the medication was inconsistent. I paid $40 for what was supposed to be a month supply, that would sometimes only last 20 or so days. For fear of her not getting the correct dosage, and to put less stress on the wallet, I decided to try the Chewy pharmacy. She has been taking this compounded medication from Chewy for about 3 months now, and her symptoms are much less apparent. As for some of the other reviews on here, I'm not sure some of these pet owners are used to giving medications. My cat drools too, but it's more than likely due to her not liking the taste of the medicine. It's just like a human taking medication, they don't all taste great! If you're on the fence about it, I would just try it and consult your vet if you have any concerns!
I have given this to my cat, it smells awful and he acts like I’m squirting acid in his mouth. He then foams and slobbers afterwards. He has had other oral liquid medicine and was fine with it. I thought he would be better with liquid but not this one, he’s better with a pill.
They sure don’t make giving kitties medicine easy. The antidepressant for our cat must be awful because the poor cat started happily eating his wet food only to start trying to get it out of his mouth and running away from the bowl. He tried to approach it again but he ran away scared and still trying to get the taste out of his mouth. My husband gave him some dry food to eat. Poor baby just hung out in the hallway trying to understand what was wrong. Finally he was offered regular food and he ate it up. I hate upset animals. I don’t recommend spending the money on this!
I feel like the people in these comments aren’t giving their cats time to adjust to this medication, and seeing the negatives of the cats drooling. Cats do that. My cat drools too, but his way of life has improved 100% he gets frequent UTIS, before the meds, he barely enjoyed anything, he would attack our other cat and lay down and didn’t like pets, now he enjoys bird watching, he’s more talkative, he will cuddle with me at night, he purs when we talk to him now, he will roll around on the floor because he’s happy, he loves to sit with our other cat now and they clean each other and like to play now. It took him about a week to adjust to the side effects, which included lack of appetite and more sleepiness, and alittle urine retention, but that has all passed and he’s back to his NEW happy self.
My cat Batman LOVES food more than any of my other cats. He eats fast like a maniac without stopping until there is nothing left. He starts to meow 2 hours before his meals. I was therefore more than surprised when Batman started leaving his food almost untouched when I add 1 ml of this med to his meal. I tried with his favorite foods. I am sure it is a problem with the med because he does this with breakfast, which is when I add the med, and not at dinner, when I give him the same food but without the med. It was prescribed for him for his aggression towards my other cats, but I am discontinuing its use and will consult my vet for other options. This is NOT a bad review for Chewy - I love this company and will continue to buy every item I need for my cats from them.
Was looking forward to this medication for my cat who is easy to medicate with liquid. Unfortunately she did not like this medication. She would lick and smack her mouth violently for a few minutes after it was given and also drool. She started running and hiding from me when it was medication time after just a few days which she has never done before.
My Vet prescribed this medicine for my senior cat who has some kind of dementia. He paces and cries all night long. The first time I gave him this medication he threw up. Then the second time couldn't stop drooling. It's not Chewy's fault that my cat had an allergic reaction to this medicine.
The liquid is thick. The syringe didn't work well. It took a lot of pressure to move plunger. Couldn't get any liquid out of bottle. Ended up removing plastic dispenser from bottle and used a different syringe. My cat hated it and fought me lifting up the corner of his lip. Stuff went everywhere except his mouth. This drug made my cat like a zombie. Discontinued after a few days.
The first time I gave this oral medication to my cat was last night. Gave .25 ml to her and she immediately starting running away and kept chewy/moving her mouth trying to get the medication out. A LOT of Saliva was coming out of her mouth and she kept running around the house so there was saliva all over the floor, I tried to check up on her but she refused to let me get close to her and I felt so bad. The next day I tried to feed her the dose again and the same thing happened. I believe that she hates the taste and it’s impossible for her to take this medication. I called chewy and will be sending the product back for refund. Buyers pls be aware!
I thought this would be easier to use than pills for my cat, but it must still taste so bitter even after compounding because she was drooling foam, constantly licking, and would run away from me. Unfortunately I will have to go back to pills or another compound company.
