  • Treats behavior conditions, pruritus, postspaying urinary incontinence, chronic pain in dogs and anxiety, behavior conditions, and as adjunctive treatment of neuropathic pain in cats.
  • Works by blocking the reabsorptin of serotonin and norepinephrine. By increasing the amount of both of these, Amitriptyline helps the brain regulate mood and behavior.
  • Not given on an as needed basis, but continously and may require several weeks to see a positive response.
  • Contact your veterinarian before making any treatment changes. Serious side effects are rare.
  • Behavioral disorders may also require the use of additional medications, daily modifications to routine, environmental changes, supplements, or other medical therapies.

My dog Winter has been taking this for a couple months. I thought at first it was helping but it really isn't. She is so skittish and I was so hopeful this would help. She's terrified of everyone and basically anything that moves. You move a box to quickly and she jumps out of her skin. I tried fluoxetine first and that did nothing. Next my vet wants her to try clomipramine. Hopefully that does something!

Inconsistent quality

These are generic and come from various manufacturers. One manufacturer sends a pill that is ineffective and our cat starts right back into his inappropriate urinating

These are generic and come from various manufacturers. One manufacturer sends a pill that is ineffective and our cat starts right back into his inappropriate urinating within a few days. The other manufacturer seems legit and the results are consistent. And there’s no way to specify which you want so it’s luck of the draw and the times we get the bad ones we are in for a month of cleaning up urine everywhere and starting back from scratch when the next month’s supply comes. (And hoping it’s not from the same manufacturer)

Coating comes off too easily

For a long time Chewy used the manufacturer Unichem for its amitriptyline and everything was fine. Now they use Advagen and the pills SUCK. They are orange and the

For a long time Chewy used the manufacturer Unichem for its amitriptyline and everything was fine. Now they use Advagen and the pills SUCK. They are orange and the coating comes off very easily. I usually hide the pill in my cats’ food and they have no problem eating it. Now they won’t eat these pills by Advagen because the coating comes off so easy, leaving a bitter taste. Chewy, please go back to Unichem!
