if you use both algae fix and accuclear at the same time are you losing efficiency? can I use both of these plus sludge destroyer all at the same time?
Answer by • Aug 16, 2021
“Green Water” algae can be very tricky to treat because it is so small that even when it is killed by API Pond Algaefix, it will continue to circulate and contribute to cloudiness. API recommends to use the Algaefix in conjunction with the API Pond Accu-clear. The Algaefix will kill the algae and then the Accu-clear (a flocculent) will cause all the tiny algae particles to clump together. This will make them easier for the filter to pull out of suspension, resulting in clearer water.
You may want to rinse your filter a day after use of the Algaefix/Accu-clear combo, to make sure that you are removing the clumped algae from the filter so it cannot break down and cause water quality problems or filter flow problems. Note that this algae has been feeding on nutrients in the system, such as Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate/Phosphate, and so it becomes very important to test the water after algae has been removed to make sure that the filter is able to handle what is left over that the algae is no longer eating. It also is essential to make sure that no Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate/Phosphate is left over for any new algae to grow and feed on.
