Can I use it outdoors for winters in a bird bath to keep the water from freezing. Weather here in Chicago could get quite cold

Aquatic Flat Heaters provide warmth for small tropical fish and are designed for glass or acrylic desktop aquariums at least 1 gallon in size, but less than 10 gallons. This heater is not intended or designed for use in outdoor bird baths.

Should I get the 7.5 watt or 15 watt for a 3.5 gallon tank?

The 7.5 W heater works best for 1 to 3-gallon fish tanks and the 15 W is best for 4 to 10-gallon tanks.

Suction cups are included so you can mount the heater to the bottom or sidewall of the aquarium.

Will this heater work on the outside of the tank or does it have to be submerged.

Boiled my fish

Used this for the first time and it got up to 86 degrees before I noticed. This heater should have stopped heating at 80 degrees . My poor Betta was limp. This heater

Dosen't even get warm

Didn't work. Didn't even get the water warm. Wanted this to heat 5 gallon water bucket for fish tank water changes. No good.

Heater works great just have to make sure it's room temp before putting it in the tank and I recommend plugging it in right before putting it in that way it gets

Over heats tank.

First and foremost, always use a thermometer to keep tabs on your water temp. Heater was fine for months, then overheated my betta tank. There are so few choices
