Heater works well but because it sometimes gets too hot for a small aquarium, it needs a timer to control the temperature. I set the timer so that heater is on for a few hours and then off for an hour so I can keep water between 76 and 78 degrees.
Saved my Beta

We live in the Northeast and our home can get cold overnight.. our beta was slipping into what we described as a cold coma... he wasn't eating, losing weight and barely moving. As a last ditch effort I bough this and it brought my little fishy friend back from the brink. He's swimming and eating again. I find he cuddled up next tp the heat when the house is cool..
Got too hot

The heater itself definitely works in heating the water, unlike some other heaters. However it definitely does not maintain temperature as it advertises. I checked the temperature at 86 degrees which is too high for bettas. That would essentially cook them slowly.
I gave 3 stars because it would work fine with a timer if you were determined enough to figure out the right balance and purchase a timer. However, the product advertises that it maintains temperature on its own, and it does not.
Also the suction cup didn't work well for me. I agree with others that two suction cups may have been better.
Temporary not lasting

This worked well until it started losing warmth and eventually it stopped emitting heat after three months. I went to my local pet store and got a submersible undertank heater instead, better lasting.

This is the perfect size for our just over 1 gallon beta bowl. Our beta so needed a heater for the short winters here in Texas., after reading the reviews on Chewy.com I made the purchase and followed the suggestion of another chewy customer to plug it into a timer. It took about 12 hours to find and keep the temp at a constant 76. He is happy, I feel better, so yes without a doubt I recommend buying.
..,and a thank you to the chewy customer for the great advice to use the timer.

I have been using this in a 2 gallon betta hospital tank for 2 months. Initially worked well. Completely stopped working 2 weeks ago. The light comes on but it does not heat at all.
This heater is fantastic!

Great little heaters

Great little heaters, my boys are much happier, It had dawn on me they needed warmth over the colder months, being tropical. I think most people do not think about it when it comes to fish.
Good for intended purposes

This heater will work and work well in a smaller tank. Be sure you are using it in a tank 1.5 gal or less. It's simply not enough for a larger tank. The thermostat feature does work. It also has a nice indicator light to let you know it is on. Only negative is the heater has a tendency to lift up a little and twist. 2 suction cups on this model would have been better than one.

My mom has gone through two heaters purchased from brick and mortar's. I've not had any issues with this submersible heater. It keeps the tank in the perfect range for my Betta!
