These Filter cartridges work very well. We have two 55 gallon tanks one with Goldfish that are all 10 years old or older and the other with 2 Pleckos and a bunch of Platies the same age. My husband takes very good care of them and we clean and care for them frequently just to make sure they are happy and healthy. My husband really likes these cartridges and i have even noticed a different smell when the tanks get dirty. The water is clearer longer and we went from three changes a week to one. He usually changes the media three times a week and does a 25% water change once a week. We havent had to change the media until the water change. Saves a great deal of money. We are going to push our changes back a bit just to see how long we can go (without making our babies uncomfortable of course) and ill update again !

This filter material is good but there is definitely room for improvement. The structure could use a bit more rigidity. It’s a decent biodegradable, earth friendly filter, but the carbon addition on the outside of the filter seems okay at best. It bends / seems a little too flimsy when you try to seat it into the filter. Not bad, but I think Aqueon has some tweaking to do. Great for the price point though!

Works great! The water flows through the filter easily but still traps debris. It does seem to get clogged more quickly than traditional fiber/charcoal type filters

Works great! The water flows through the filter easily but still traps debris. It does seem to get clogged more quickly than traditional fiber/charcoal type filters. I rinse it off (in the old aquarium water, not tap) when doing water changes but it does need to be replaced every month or so. Of course it is biodegradable/compostable and as advertised, it will eventually break down and isn't for long term use. It's easy to change and the no-drip corner is helpful. Over all I appreciate the sustainability aspects but I prefer traditional filters as they will last longer.

This is a really interesting product and I would love to see more work put into it. This is a fully renewable, compostable aquarium filter that, if it worked as intended, would still have enough charcoal for chemical filtration and coconut coir matting for physical filtration. As it is now, it is a little bit prone to shedding, and I think that sandwiching actual charcoal granules between the coco coir would be more effective than adhering charcoal dust to the outside. However, I did toss a couple into the bottom of a new terrarium on a whim in order to make a drainage layer on top of the clay balls, and that seems to be working well at the moment! They will break down over time but I’m not too worried, by then the plant roots will be fully established.

I really like how these are made from natural materials and act as a form of a "natural surface" for bacteria inside the filter. I rescaped a tank (old picture)

I really like how these are made from natural materials and act as a form of a "natural surface" for bacteria inside the filter. I rescaped a tank (old picture) and the filter cleared up the water very quickly. I wonder if these cartridges can just be thrown into a tank so it can collect biofilm and be a good spot for shrimplets to hang out. I may experiment with that (I know it's not the intended use), but I am honestly just curious since it may act as a botanical without the tannins.

I am a carbon fiber filter girl, who is always using that in my tank and switching it out of every three weeks. I received these to review and was skeptical. At first. I read a lot about them falling apart and not lasting very long. I have had one in my tank now for three weeks. It’s still intact and my water still looks really great. The numbers are all within range. I like the idea that I’m not using plastic filter refills in the tank anymore. This seems more natural and organic. We’ll see how it does in the next six months!

Good for my betta tank

I like this product, but have noticed a few more particles floating in the water vs my old filter. I was using this product in my community tank which has 20 fish

I like this product, but have noticed a few more particles floating in the water vs my old filter. I was using this product in my community tank which has 20 fish in it but when I saw murkier water I switched to using this is my betta tank and am much happier. The water is much clearer and my betta seems to be happy. The filter catches a lot of debris.

I really like these aquarium cartridges. It is so convenient to either pop in a new one, or simply rinse off the gunk and reuse. There is no messy carbon chips to rinse or have the carbon sit at the bottom of the filter. For the aquarium filter that is not this brand, I simply trim this filter up a little and use it instead of their brand! It does a great job keeping my aquarium crystal clear!
