Connect with a Vet is Chewy's telehealth service for pet parents with cats and dogs. There are two ways to connect:

• Chat for free with a licensed veterinary technician to get quick advice on pet health topics and concerns. Our online vet tech chat is available from 6 a.m. to midnight.

• Schedule a virtual visit with a licensed veterinarian. Chewy’s televet service connects you with a licensed veterinarian via video. Virtual visits with a vet are available only in Virginia, can be scheduled daily from 8 am to midnight ET, and cost $49.99. Same-day appointments are usually available.  If the vet feels that your pet needs a prescription, they can prescribe it during your visit. Then you can order it from Chewy and have it shipped right to your door.

Whether your pet is having symptoms of an illness or injury, or you have questions about their well-being, our online veterinarians and veterinary technicians can help.

Use our free, live chat to get advice for questions like:

• “My dog ate chocolate (or socks, or sneakers—you know how it is). Does he need emergency care?”

• “My cat has been scratching at her ears this week. How can I get her some relief?”

• “My dog is showing signs of separation anxiety. What can I do to calm her down when I leave the house?”

In addition to providing guidance, our online vet techs can help you understand the urgency of your pet’s situation and advise you about seeking in-person or emergency care. If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening situation, please go directly to the closest veterinary clinic or emergency vet clinic.

In a virtual visit with a licensed veterinarian, you can get help with things like:

• Flea and tick medications to help protect your pet year-round

• Prescriptions for veterinary diets for a variety of conditions, such as urinary issues, obesity, or food allergies

• Digestive issues such as diarrhea, with recommendations for at-home care or next steps for treatment

• Skin and ear concerns, including treatments or therapies for a wide range of skin issues, including itching, irritation, and possible infection

• Behavioral challenges like anxiety, destructive behavior, or having accidents in the house, with strategies for management, including potential medication options

• Assessing symptoms like coughing or sneezing to help determine if immediate and/or in-person care is needed 

Some health needs, like vaccines, diagnostic tests, or lab work, will still require an in-person vet visit. For emergency situations, such as severe trouble breathing, excessive bleeding, uncontrolled seizures, or toxins, take your pet to your vet or the nearest emergency vet clinic right away.

• With free chat, you’ll connect instantly so you can get advice right when you need it. Use the text-based live chat to exchange messages, pictures, and videos with a veterinary technician.

• For virtual vet visits, you’ll schedule an appointment, and we’ll send you a link to join your visit. These will be done over video with a licensed veterinarian.

Our expert telehealth team is here 365 days a year, including holidays:

• Live chat with an online vet tech is available from 6 a.m. to midnight Eastern time.

• Virtual visits with a licensed veterinarian can be scheduled from 8 a.m. to midnight ET.

• Live chat with an online vet tech is available nationwide, except for customers who live in Alaska, Georgia, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

• Virtual visits with a licensed veterinarian are currently available for pet parents in Virginia.

Currently, Connect with a Vet is only available for dogs and cats.

• Virtual visits with a vet: Yes, through virtual visits, our licensed veterinarians can prescribe many medications for cats and dogs in supported states. Prescriptions can be ordered directly from Chewy and shipped right to your doorstep.

• Live chat with a vet tech: Veterinary technicians cannot authorize medication refills.

• Virtual visits with a vet: While our veterinarians can’t authorize medication refills originally prescribed by a non-Chewy veterinarian, they can create new prescriptions at their professional discretion.

• Live chat with a vet tech is free for Chewy customers.

• Virtual visits with a vet are $49.99 per visit (one pet per visit).

• CarePlus customers who purchased their plan before Nov 1st, 2025 will have access to free video consult on PI dashboard. Check out your benefits here.

• Our live chat is free.
• For virtual visits, we do not accept pet insurance as payment, but you may use invoices to submit a claim for reimbursement with your pet insurance company. You’ll find your invoices in Order History in your account.
