Blackwood Complete & Balanced Diet Adult Lamb Meal & Chicken Meal with Ancient Grains Recipe Dry Dog Food, 4.5-lb bag

I tried hills and merrick brands until I found this higher quality company. I really like their food and love the company is owned by a small Ohio company. My Aussie Cattle Dog mix pup loves this one. We mix it with a can of wet food by Blackwood and he’s healthy and loves the dry kibble on its own which is saying a lot.

I was hoping that my boys - two german shepherds - would like this, as I am always striving to give them the best nutrition. This seemed like a great possibility. The kibble smelled wonderful, and was of a good size. I liked that it is a complete feed with ancient grains. It is also lamb, which is currently what I feed. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. With two dogs, I need to have a food that both dogs like, so that I don't have to feed two separate foods. Neither of my dogs would consider this food when I put it in their feed bowls. They both walked away. I decided to try it as a training treat. One of the dogs readily accepted it, and the second refused, or took it and then immediately spit it out. I believe, over time, if introduced slowly, my result may be different. My dogs have been on the same feed their entire lives (3 yrs & 4.5 years) and normally eat enthusiastically. If they had shown more interest in this one, I may have considered switching, but that wasn't the case for me.

I was happy with the size of the kibble, the size is small - similar to cat food kibble. I was hopefully that my dog, who is a senior that likes to eat the cat food, would like it. I have had to add freeze dried toppers to entice him to eat it and then he eats most of it. There isn't much of a smell to it that I can pick up. As much as I like the size of the kibble it isn't enticing enough for my dog.
