About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Questions & Answers

How is this a GI formula? The first few ingredients are chicken, fish, and carageenan; 3 of the worst food allergens ever.
Answer by ChewyNov 11, 2019
This is a GI formula because it contains prebiotic fibers to help balance and maintain your pet’s healthy GI microflora. This recipe contains vitamins E and C, plus antioxidant-rich ingredients including blueberries and cranberries to help support a healthy immune system.

why does this contain carrageenan? it can cause IBD and gastrointestinal issues.
Answer by ChewyMar 02, 2021
The carrageenan used in some of our products is a food grade, AAFCO and FDA approved ingredient. It is used in some of our canned formulas for its use as a stabilizer and thickener. This is a natural ingredient that is derived from a red seaweed extract.

Is this a pate? Does it have gravy?
Answer by ChewySep 16, 2022
This formula is a pate.

Iggy Likes It

We had been giving our other cat the W+U food from the same Blue Buffalo line to solve his urinary issues and Iggy was always trying to eat it off his plate. Iggy is actually underweight and had pancreatitis recently, so this GI version is perfect. He's super picky about food, but loves this stuff. I feel like I can give him a lot, but still hopefully curb the pancreatitis. This whole line seems like good quality food, and of course it's a bit expensive...

GreatProduct

4cats live in our home all with GI issues. All 4 are rescues[Maine Coon-male2, Bombay-male3, Ginger Tabby-female4 and CalicoSiamese Mix-female5} from distressed circumstances, all with health issues. Trying to find a food that would satisfy all needs was difficult. They all started on this a month ago after not getting wet food for several months eating BB GI dry food only. All 4 love this food. Now, bowel movements are good and no more vomiting. Thank You Chewy and Blue Buffalo

Good w/d temporary replacement

We bought it as a temporary replacement for w/d during the cat food shortage. So far it has been tolerated well by all of the cats! It doesn’t have the weight reduction aspect though.

excellent for tiny kitten with diarrhea

I fostered 3 kittens and the smallest, weakest one was plagued with diarrhea. Her siblings were fine but I had to wonder if she’d even survive. We tried this product and honestly, it was like magic! She went from diarrhea to completely normal stools in less than a day, and and seems to love the taste. Her siblings were adopted and we decided to keep her. We tried another gastro food which worked ok, but this one seems to fill her up more so she isn’t crying for food all the time either.

Blue buffalo GI Diet canned cat food

Finally found a food that my cat will eat since she was diagnosed with early kidney disease. Hates science diet. Hates royal Canin. She was losing weight. Her vet was of no help. Very mixed messages about the food. Telling me no renal diet food, yet giving me renal dry food and prescriptions for renal Royal Canin food. And I still had to doctor it with chicken. And Royal Canin doesn’t even have a K/D food? And the vet was telling me not to cook for the cat either!? Anyway glad to find something that she actually likes and is now gaining some weight. She is 15 years old and is now playing like a kitten again. After being sick for about six months. I’m hoping that she will be with me for another couple years. It was touching go there for a bit..

My cat loves it and it helped him so much!

My 18yr old cat had been having serious gastro issues for a several weeks with explosive BMs and was going on the floor instead of in one of his 3 litter boxes. His vet recommended first trying this to see if it was food related. Not only did he love his new food but within a few days he stopped having these issues and was feeling so much better. It has been a month now and the difference in him is amazing.

Tummy problems solved!

Wish I found this stuff years ago. My 13-year-old has been enjoying this food for several years now, and it's really helped her. I also feed her Nutro senior dry food. The combo seems to work well for her. She sometimes still has random flare-ups, but I honestly think that's because of her Daddy sneaking her treats occasionally! lol

My cat is very fussy, but she really goes for this food! Cleans her plate!
