Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow a 7 to 14-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. For a 14-day transition plan, start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Days 1-4. On Days 5-8, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Days 9-11, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Days 12-14, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Blue buffalo GI Diet canned cat food
By LaCo on Jan 1, 2021
Finally found a food that my cat will eat since she was diagnosed with early kidney disease. Hates science diet. Hates royal Canin. She was losing weight. Her vet was of no help. Very mixed messages about the food. Telling me no renal diet food, yet giving me renal dry food and prescriptions for renal Royal Canin food. And I still had to doctor it with chicken. And Royal Canin doesn’t even have a K/D food? And the vet was telling me not to cook for the cat either!? Anyway glad to find something that she actually likes and is now gaining some weight. She is 15 years old and is now playing like a kitten again. After being sick for about six months. I’m hoping that she will be with me for another Finally found a food that my cat will eat since she was diagnosed with early kidney disease. Hates science diet. Hates royal Canin. My cat loves it and it helped him so much!
By Rocky on Nov 13, 2020
My 18yr old cat had been having serious gastro issues for a several weeks with explosive BMs and was going on the floor instead of in one of his 3 litter boxes. His vet recommended first trying this to see if it was food related. Not only did he love his new food but within a few days he stopped having these issues and was feeling so much better. It has been a month now and the difference in him is amazing.

Tummy problems solved!
By NashCatMomma on Oct 6, 2020
Wish I found this stuff years ago. My 13-year-old has been enjoying this food for several years now, and it's really helped her. I also feed her Nutro senior dry food. The combo seems to work well for her. She sometimes still has random flare-ups, but I honestly think that's because of her Daddy sneaking her treats occasionally! lol

FIV+ loved it
By Jess on Dec 25, 2019
Ollie, our FIV+ baby was switched to this food to help decrease his colitis flare ups. He would eat half a can in the am and half in the pm. I stored it in the fridge and would heat it up in the microwave for 15 seconds and stir it up good. He loved it! Unfortunately, soon after he started this new diet, his fiv caught up to him and he crossed the rainbow bride on 12/23. I hope this review helps someone out who was overwhelmed like me with the diagnosis and the health issues that sometimes come with it. This food was great and stopped his nonstop diarrhea and gave him some comfort in his last few weeks. Finally a vet formula the cat enjoys!
By Gizmo on Dec 6, 2019
Headline says it all! Gizmo has been so sick and rejected all other brands of this type of vet prescribed cat food. He really enjoys this one. It’s a good thing because he was deteriorating due to not accepting food.

Gibby loves the hard food, canned not so much
By Jodi44 on May 6, 2019
We bought the hard food first because of GI issues and he took to it immediately. So we purchased the cans to give him a treat because he always liked soft food too. The 1st can he did ok with, we only give him about a third at a time. By the second can he won't touch it at all. It will sit in his dish for hours. Staying with the hard food.
