Kent / Blue Seal Sentinel Active Senior Horse Feed, 50-lb bag

Sentinel Active Senior is the only extruded feed my ancient donkeys will eat. A godsend keeping weight on them in the winter. The pellets are slightly oily so ground-up medicine (like Prasend), salt, etc., have a good chance to stick to the feed. And that improves the likelihood that my donkeys will eat the meds in their feed. Unfortunately, my donkeys only eat the pellets, never the crumbs, leaving some of my helpful amendments in the dust. And most bags of Sentinel Active Senior have A LOT of crumbs. I don’t just notice it. I use a meshed metal basket to shift the feed 2 cups at a time, the crumbs falling into a box. That box weighs a ton now after 1.25 bags. (I will have to weigh that box.) Now, only a small amount of crumb remains in their empty bowls, so the donks must be getting their meds. My hand shifting is working, but it takes time - one more barn chore! I needed that. Should this horse feed be so filled with crumbs? That crumb is feed I paid for, but it goes uneaten. My animals aren't the only ones who don’t eat crumbs. But should there be pounds of crumbs? In CONTRAST, the big bags of slightly oily DRY DOG food we use have very little crumb at the bottom of the bag. Some, but very little. I don’t think my dogs would enjoy eating a lot of dog food crumbs. The Sentinel Active Senior bags have so much crumb inside that it is distributed throughout the bag, not just at the bottom. All that said, Sentinel Active Senior feed smells fine, looks good, is a consistent product and my picky donkeys eat it, even seem to like it. (But they aren’t doing the shifting or paying.)
