Candidate dog food.

Initially both liked this food, especially mia. I like the small pellets. And I like the nutritional value but I got a giant bag and they stopped eating it.

Great food! Salmon is the first ingredient, second is turkey meal, then chicken meal. Canidae uses quality ingredients. All three of my dogs love it. I’ve been giving them a few kibbles each day to ease it in to their diet, you know they really like it if they think it’s treat worthy! I’ve not had an all life stages food before. I have a 1 yr old corgi, a 9 yr old chiwinnie and a 15 yr old chihuahua, so having one kind of food for everyone would make life easier. My 15 yr old is super picky and it’s hard to find him good food that he likes, he got some of his wet food with Canidae kibbles and he quickly(!) ate it all. This has good quality ingredients and the dogs all love it, perfect!

A Great Food for my Active Trail Buddy

I have been feeding this new food to my 8 year old, 20 pound terrier mix, Gustav, for the last two weeks. I initially picked it out because Gustav is my active little off-trail parking buddy, still going strong despite his age. We might go three to four miles with only deer trails for paths. As such, he does run on the lean side, and needs plenty of energy. So I thought a higher protein dog food might do well for him both to help him retain good body condition, and to keep active. I also picked out this food because it is wheat free, a must for Gustav, who gets really itchy skin if he eats wheat The results so far have been quite positive. We have gone on several multi-mile off-trail hikes since he started on this new food, and his energy has been great. He tears around the deer trails like a pup a quarter his age. There was no issue in switching him onto this new food; his tummy took right to it without any loose stools. His stools have been firm and super easy to bag and pick up on our town walks. The kibble size is absolutely perfect for a dog his size. They are on the smallish size, like the size of canning peas when they have over ripened on the vine. (I took a picture of them in my palm to show what I mean.) Tastewise, he loves this food. Even two weeks on, he gets as excited for it as he does for a treat. I mean, he always gets excited for food, but there are levels of excitement. There's ,"Yay! Food time! Happy!" for regular meal time kibble all the way up to toe-tapping, big-eyed, bursting with excitement, "Oh my gosh, seriously, that looks REALLY super good! Will you give me some now? PLEASE!?!?!?!?!!!!" for the super special treats. This is just barely a notch below freeze-dried antelope liver, which is high praise for an every day meal time kibble. From my human perspective, with my less than doggy sensitive nose, I can still detect that this food does have a rather potent smell. The smellier, the tastier seems to be the motto of every dog I've ever had. So to sum up, this is kibble with a great taste that is easy on the stomach and great for energy on the trails. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with an active dog.

My dog was excited about this food. I fed it to her along side her regular food. I can't speak to the nutrition content, as I am not well-informed on what makes for a well-balanced dog food, but I know that she loved it! I liked that the size of the kibble was the same as what she is used to and they seemed easy for her to chew. We were taking care of a friend's dog who doesn't always eat quickly, but with this food mixed in with what she is used to, she was much more interested in finishing!

I usually relish the chance to give my dog new things, as it keeps his life that much more interesting. I will say, he loved this CANIDAE kibble. Unfortunately, it didn't love him. The result of giving him a small handful along with his regular dry food was a rather intense intestinal distress. I first thought that he probably got into something out in the yard, but on the second time, it was even worse. Not to be dissuaded, I skipped a couple of days and again gave him just a small handful with his regular kibble. Nope, it was the Canidae. He loved the taste. I don't know what the issue is, but it is very clear to me that something in it just doesn't sit well with my pooch!

Canadae All Life Stages Salmon dog food - I immediately requested this for my dog, a 70lb Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who is older now (a rescue I've had for 9 years) because Maggie becomes a very difficult roommate if she eats chicken, and needs a high protein diet. She loved it, and it was great for her digestion. There wasn't enough to really see the longterm benefits to her coat that I would expect from salmon. The tiny pellets took longer for her to eat - this seems like an ideal puppy food or smaller breed kibble.

My English Cream Golden Retriever has been testing the Canidae for a couple of weeks. Because she’s been on raw food, she’s not getting this Canidae exclusively. But she gets a good serving and has had no problem with it the way people often say to gradually transition from one food to another. She absolutely loves it. I throw about a half cup of it for her to search for (scatter feed) and use it for treats and rewards. The small kibble pieces are great for that.
