Does the door close automatically and can it swing both ways?

The door automatically closes as you shut it. It can swing both ways by adjusting the base lock. At the bottom of the gate door, rotate the base lock on one side to the horizontal position to allow the door to swing open in only one direction. To allow the door to swing open in both directions, rotate the base lock on both sides.

Sturdy quality and made to last!

I have had a Carlson gate for well over a decade. I would not settle for less when getting another, so was happy to find Chewy stocked this. I gave it a 4 star

I have had a Carlson gate for well over a decade. I would not settle for less when getting another, so was happy to find Chewy stocked this. I gave it a 4 star rating only due to the fact that the staircase on which I put it was difficult to accommodate either the more narrow panel or the larger panel. I was able to use the larger panel on a different area so that it works OK, but not ideal. My old gate did not come with the screw-in holders and I could not use them where I needed to install this gate. Although I like the concept that it makes the gate more sturdy, I've found that I have had to change the height of my old gate when my older dog decided he could jump over it! The installation of the new gate was a bit more difficult since I could not use the permanent holders, but I made it work on the unusual design of my staircase. Royce can no longer run upstairs and bark at the renter living on that floor! And I know that I can count on this gate lasting a lifetime! The gate itself deserves a 5 star rating. It was only due to the more difficult installation doing it alone and trying to make it fit an unusual area that I gave it a 4. As far as I am concerned, I would not buy any other brand!! Well worth the money.

It looked sturdy enough for the biggest dogs

I was looking for a gate to go across the hallway to keep the dogs out of the cat boxes at the back door. This looked like it would be sturdy enough to keep even

I was looking for a gate to go across the hallway to keep the dogs out of the cat boxes at the back door. This looked like it would be sturdy enough to keep even the biggest dogs out. It was relatively easy to put up and it has done very well. I like how easy it is to open and it even has a small door that the cats can go through. Very happy with this gate, especially since it replaced one that just wasn't holding up.

Bunny and toddler proof

Installed this in small hallway so bunny would be undisturbed by toddler. She learned quickly to use the pet door. I have a big bunny, 8.5 lb, and she fits easily

It don’t work

The top latch for one is not even long enough to secure the door and you can’t tighten the gate so it stay in place dumb design for a gate

Great for the Price

It can pop out of the doorway when I'm not careful, but the dogs have not managed to bring it down yet and the cat wanders straight through to the litter box on

The price on this gate is what made it appealing to me, and I am still VERY impressed with the quality of the build given how "cheap" it was to have shipped to me.
