What happens if the cat is eating out of the open space and the feeder starts to move to the next bowl? Can it detect an obstacle like a cat's head or does it just keep trying to open?

The Cat Mate C300 does not feature any sensors to prevent it from closing while the pet is using it. However it is designed with a rotating bowl and a stationary opening for them to access the food. The bowl will rotate at each programmed feeding time to the next compartment and then remain in that position until the next programmed feeding time. So it will not move while the pet is eating, unless it is at programmed feeding time. The bowl rotates at a slow enough speed that it would give plenty of time for a pet to be clear of the rotating compartment.

Once the desired meal times are programmed you will not need to reprogram the Cat Mate C300. It can dispense food everyday until the battery runs out. This product runs on 3 AA batteries (not included), which provides approximately 12 months of operation. When changing the batteries, you should replace them within 60 seconds to prevent the loss of programming.

What are the dimensions of the food trays? Are they deep enough to hold a cat 3" diameter cat toy?

The dimensions of this feeders compartments are as follows: 6 inches at it's widest point, 2 inches at its narrowest point, 3 3/4 inches from the inner most point to the edge of the compartment, 1 1/2 inches deep at it's most shallow and 1 3/4 inches deep at it deepest.

Does this feeder have an hourly timer, 12 or 24 hour timer? Thank you

The Cat Mate C300 Automatic Pet Feeder can be programmed to open at your pet's normal feeding times, twice a day. You may create any timeframe you'd like.

I'm not sure what it was. Perhaps it was the shape of the bowl, but I ended up having to get a different auto-feeder for him, and he LOVES that one. He loves hearing the kibble hit the metal. The original reason that I got this one was for times when I'm late coming home, and he could still have his wet food meals, but instead, he would just leave them inside the bowl and wait until I got home. I don't think this is a bad product, but it is definitely a trial product.

First day it rotated maybe halfway the second day it rotate only a quarter of a way so my dog is digging at it to get to the rest of the food and flipping it over

Flexible Day, Cats Fed on Time

I work a job with inconsistent hours, so it’s nice that my cats can have their Smalls/fresh wet food on a regular schedule. I no longer have to worry about whether or not they’ll get their meal on time and my day has more flexibility. The only thing is the ice pack only lasts through the night and then you need to replace it in the morning, so I suggest buying an extra set of ice packs with your purchase so you don’t have to wait to use it.

Worked great until warranty was up

This product was great for feeding my cats in the morning so that they wouldn't wake me up. Worked well for three years until the motor malfunctioned by spinning

This product was great for feeding my cats in the morning so that they wouldn't wake me up. Worked well for three years until the motor malfunctioned by spinning partway every five seconds. I was on vacation so I ended up ordering the same thing again. Tried all of the suggested fixes I could find on reddit and youtube when I got returned home but no such luck and I'm just over the warranty period. I'm really tired of disposable products so hopefully this was a fluke and this new one lasts longer.

Initially I feared my puppy might chew it (all plastic) or get pinched, when it rotated, but that hasn’t happened. The timer makes sure we don’t miss his meals, even when we are home.

Battery life

The concept is there but it’s not very reliable for me. This would work temporarily, like on a day you know you’re going to be gone for too long. But I have to constantly replace the batteries after a few weeks and reset the times I wanted it to rotate. And it has a freezing case that you have to constantly take out to freeze. Not to mention how low to the ground it is, which has been said is not good for cat’s digestion. Overall just felt like the same amount of work of doing it by hand but with extra steps.
