Instructions
  1. Place template in desired position on door and draw round it. (We recommend the bottom of the hole is approximately level with your pet’s stomach.)
  2. Use an electric jig-saw to cut along inside of drawn line. Be careful to cut hole square to the door, particularly with thicker doors. Ensure frames are free-fitting in hole.
  3. Determine thickness of door panel (t).
  4. If necessary, cut interior frame (frame without swinging flap) to correct length with sharp knife. Keep hands clear of blade and support inside of moulding with a suitable piece of wood.
  5. For door panels 0 - 7/8 inches thick
  6. Position interior frame on inside of door and mark four screw positions.
  7. Remove frame and drill screw clearance holes in panel to approximately 3/16 inches diameter.
  8. Select appropriate screws.

    Love this door

    By on

We got this cat door to make an entrance to the cat patio through a window. This door is perfect as you can adjust it to fit a multitude of different sizes and instructions are there on how to adjust it. Great door and very sturdy. Keeps the cold wind out and we have lots of wind up here close to the Canadian boarder

Well made cat door small size

    By on

I needed a cat door so the cats could get in and out of bedroom with door closed. The size of this door was perfect to go through the wall, added one # 303 extender to squeeze out a 4 inch thick wall. I used wide tape to the extension to fix to the end plate. I used hot glue to stick up four 1/4 " wood stakes to inside wall for mount screws, worked great, looks great! The door looks small, but all my cats fit thru just fine.

    Terrific Product

    By on

I bought this as a replacement for the one I had installed several years earlier. I needed to make a small modification to the existing hole, but other than that, this product fit perfectly, and seems much more stable than the previously one (from a different company). It is sturdy, strong, and well made. I would purchase it again.

    Two issues

    By on

The door I installed this on was a hollow-core door, and it was just too thick for even the longest screws to fit through. I had to glue it around the rim to get it to stay, which I have no problem with, but maybe add one more set of longer screws. Also, it’s very small. My oldest cat is eight months old and he takes up pretty much the whole thing when going through. Once they get bigger I’m not sure they’ll be able to get through.

    Cats Wont Fit

    By on

I do not know if everyone has only small cats and teacup dogs but out of the multiple cats I care for, over half of them will not fit through this door. Small Cat - Teacup Dog - Fine ... Norma cat, no ... I need a door that will fit 17 to 18 inch wide cats and definitely taller than this door. I tried to fit an average cat through this door and the cat freaked out because of how short and slim it is. I am not finding good measurements as I read about the doors - small, medium, large - how about width and height of animal. Either the information is not clear or I am struggling to understand. And I could not tell if it came with a liner, so I purchased a liner because it appeared indicated I do not know if everyone has only small cats and teacup dogs but out of the multiple cats I care for, over half of them will not fit through this door. Great product. I've installed 3 so far. Not hard at all if it's a hollow door.

Easy install and seems fairly durable

I've installed kitty doors for every house I've owned. I refuse to have a litter box anywhere inside except for a utility or laundry room. I've had a couple that my cats easily broke the door off of when I locked them. Hopefully, this one will stand up to my big cat's determination if I ever have to lock him away from visiting children or allergic guests.

    Very Satisfied, but learning curve.

We installed the Cat Mate in an aluminum storm door, and it fit just fine. I read a review on how to introduce it to your cat -- it said push the cat's head through the door. My cat did not like that! The strong magnetic snap closure seemed to put her off, and she prefers to get it opened first with her paw. It took about a month to get her trained. She likes looking through the window before deciding to exit.
