Does a portion of the top of the hood lift up (for cleaning ease)? or is it only accessed through the door area?
Answer by ChewyOct 20, 2017
The top half of the litter box does detach from the bottom for super easy cleaning! Just slide the handle on the sides towards you to unlock it.

Does this work for high peeing cats or does the this allow the pee to get between the middle where the hood and bottom join?
Answer by ChewyApr 23, 2019
The bottom pan itself measures approximately 9 inches, along the backside and gradually tapers down to 6 inches toward the front. The hood of the pan will fit securely over the bottom pan to keep messes inside.

Ca the door be removed
Answer by ChewyNov 22, 2017
The clear plastic door can be removed.

Does this box have a locking lid?
Answer by ChewySep 28, 2018
This lid can be locked in place with the latches located on the side.

Good box for the price.

So far, so good. I have to keep the hood up because my dog isn't used to the swinging door yet. I bought it for my cat who stands and pees so I am always cleaning around the box. Usually she puts her butt up where the entrance is and makes a mess outside. This seems to work well even with the door open. I love the feature of how it swings up for cleaning so I don't have to take the whole hood off to scoop. My space is very tight so that makes it much easier. Since it is so roomy, the cat hasn't been peeing out the opening even with the door up. I like it!

Great litter box upgrade!

Upgraded from a small, open box to this large covered one for my growing kitten. So far, in its first few days it's working really well. I was worried she wouldn't take to it well, but she started showing interest no problem after transferring her used litter in. We opted to remove the clear plastic flap in the front. My little cat is a biter and finds the black filter piece fun to chew and scratch on, I do have to leave it flipped open and that deters her a bit. No noticeable smell from leaving the door off and the lid open. Potential problems that haven't caused an issue yet 1) It was a little finnicky to figure out the locking mechanism that attaches the lid to the pan. I had to play with it a bit after unboxing to make sure it functioned correctly. 2) Plastic lid feels lightweight. I don't intend on carrying the box by the lid, but if it's full of litter I wouldn't be surprised if it broke

another waist of $

i purchased this as it was considered a top entry... of course it arrives and while the box has a top it is NOT TOP ENTRY. I should have returned the item... but decided to try. My cat is able to kick litter out the door and every where since it is side entry. So after waisting money on a self cleaning box and now this... i'm highly annoyed about the misleading description.

I’ve tried many different litter boxes through the years, and this one is the best. I’ve always liked closed boxes with the swinging front door. This one has a very big door. In fact, the entire front of this box is a door. What sold me on this one was that you don’t need to squeeze your hand into a small space to scoop the litter. It’s like a convertible, the entire door front and top flips open and folds back for super easy scooping and everything is exposed. You don’t have to detach the top of the litter box, you just flip the convertible part and fold it back. LOVE it! I’ve had this litter box for about 10 years now, and have not had any issues with the door breaking. Highly recommend this one.

this is a good box

I have two house cats and they seem to like it but they started scratching the walls of the box, when it gets half full, instead of burying their buddies. My guess is they are confused about where the smell is coming from(from being trapped inside?). May buy another, holds the smell good if you change it regularly and the filters so often.

Best litter box ever!

My 23-pound Maine Coon easily fits into this box, and it is easy for him to get in and out of. My 6-pound kitten also prefers this litter box to the two other regular-sized boxes. I’m so glad I got it! I keep the door open and resting up on top of the box as they’ve never had a litter box door before.

A+ Litter Box

This really is a "jumbo" litter box. Our active young cat likes lots of room to turn around & dig & this box is plenty roomy. We removed the door & the box still does the job of containing odor. I take off the entire hood when cleaning the box because I find it the easiest way, but the hinged top allows you to clean the box while leaving the entire top on if that's your preference. I would purchase this again.

Love how the cat door comes up

I love that the cat door can be pulled up for easier scooping. The only complaint I have is that I have a hard time attaching the hood to the litter tray. Not sure if it’s user error, but overall I’m pretty happy with this purchase.

Design Flaw

I have two of these and was liking them just fine until I figured out the design flaw that can cause urine to leak out and hit the floor. One of my girls is long legged and on occasion she will spray up high against the side and up into the lid. Well, if she happens to do this at the spot where one of the slider locks is, the urine is not contained. It leaks between the lid and base and goes right out the slit holes that are in the base. I've found urine outside three times and it's always beneath one of the slider locks. So I'm looking for something else.

Not as Good as Used to Be

I purchased this 5 years ago and it was very sturdy and durable. Worked well for 4 cats too. Decided to replace it because it was scratched up over the years. The new one didn't even last 1 year. It broke as I was carrying it out to clean it and replace the litter. I noticed the plastic seems flimsy. Big disappointment!
