Chipolo works by connecting to the Bluetooth signal on your phone. Chipolo’s Bluetooth range can extend up to 200 feet (60 meters) when there is a clear line of sight from your phone to the Chipolo. However, if any other Chipolo user's phone/tablet is within 200 feet / 60 meters of your Chipolo, you will receive an update with the location of your Chipolo. When this happens, you will see a pin on the map view for your Chipolo. This essentially makes the range limitless once there are enough Chipolo users in your area. As the technology improves, so will the Chipolo capabilities.

Chipolo offers all its features without additional subscription fees. Chipolo item finders are compatible with devices running iOS 12 and later, and devices running Android 7 and later. For Chipolo to work, the device must also be equipped with Bluetooth 4.

Regular Chipolos that work with the Chipolo app work both on iPhones and Android phones. They are best suited for finding misplaced things that you forget nearby, for example around the house, at the office or in your car. These are available in 6 different colors. Chipolo Spot finders work exclusively with the Apple Find My app and can only be used with iPhones. They are best suited for finding lost things or tracking them over larger distances. Chipolo Spot finders are only available in one color – Almost Black.

The key finder uses a coin-shaped battery model CR 2032 that you can find in most shops selling regular AA batteries. When the battery runs out, you can replace it yourself in a few simple steps.
