Does it pull off finishing or paint when removed?

This dog scratch prevention plates are designed to protect doors from future damage caused by pet scratching. The 3M adhesive is industrial strength and semi-permanent; it can be removed, but we cannot guarantee it will not take some paint with it. There are too many variables in paint type and application to predict this.

Can the black aluminum be trimmed with heavy duty scissors?

No, you need access to a metal shear to cut the anodized aluminum product. The manufacturer does offer customer sizes through their direct website.

Waste of time and a good amount of money

So incredibly thin, attachment was just the thinnest 3m strips they make, bottom corners are not rounded so super sharp, and my dog bent it the first night used

So incredibly thin, attachment was just the thinnest 3m strips they make, bottom corners are not rounded so super sharp, and my dog bent it the first night used and got through the door. Do not recommend, was a HUGE waste of alot of money.

One of our doors has seen better days after repeated (excited) scratching at the door to ask to go out. This door plate was much easier than replacing the entire door! The adhesive on the back was very easy to apply. I had a bit less area to attach the adhesive to, since my door was a little concave, but it still attached well; I only had to readjust it once. And I'm sure it would work even better on a door that hasn't been worn down. The door looks so much better now AND I don't have to worry about even more scratch marks. The material is sturdy and sleek so it's not an eyesore at all. It's been holding up to pup scratches very well so far and I'm happy to have a solution for any other doors that may need it. :)

Deck the Door Decor Dog Scratch Protection Plate is a product that meets a need when you have a puppy that wants out right away, and they all do. My sweet pup,Tucker, cannot wait to get to me when I return home, so he immediately starts scratching on the door. Tucker also scratches when I have to put him up because we have company. I hate hearing him scratch or yelling at him, and now my problem is solved. Not only has it prevented future damage to my newly painted door, it actually covers the previous damage that was there, so it is a win-win. I use this product on my bedroom door. The door doesn't always latch properly so my pups push it open with their noses and paws. The door protection plate has kept them from scratching paint off the door and its easy to wipe off the nose prints. I did have to use a 2nd layer of tape on the plate because it fell off within the first 30 minutes of placing it on the door. I do recommend this product if your dog scratches at your doors or walls.

Cons: The adhesive did not stand up. I will preface this with saying it's been really cold out and I put the plate on the interior of an exterior metal door. I am hoping the strips were just not sticking well because of this fact. I did hold the plate against the door for about a minute in 40 degree F weather, but then our weather dropped to 20s overnight, so I am unsure if it will stick better if installed in warmer circumstances. Pros: The metal is pretty and thick. I have door hardware in the same finish and it matches very well. When the plate fell, you could hear how thick it was based on the noise it made. It accidently became a scratching deterrent when my dog realized she didn't like the feel of the metal on her paw, nor did she like the loud noise it made when she scratched it (or when it fell). So, to recap, beautiful product, but might not stick well during cold weather.

I used it for my door patio to my backyard. My three dobies and one yorkie keep scratching the door whenever they wanna go outside and play or potty break. They keep scratching the paint off the door. So now they scratch on the "Deck the Door " ( scratch protection plate), so it is working! It's handling the scratches so far. lol :D It was easy to apply it. I'm probably gonna get another one for my front door. I ended up getting the bronze... The color pops on the door really well.

Our pup scratches the door all the time to go potty, when we come home, etc. I know these are mostly used for dogs scratching underneath the door knob, but ours likes to scratch above it. Regardless, this is a massive upgrade! No more splintered wood, no more damaging the door! Our home is from the 20s with original doors, this product will allow us to keep the doors & repair them at a later date while preventing further damage. Had it installed for a few days now, and its working great. I especially like that the top corners are rounded, so I know he'll never catch a paw on an edge. It matches the door hardware, and works much better than all the plastic protector alternatives (we tried two different kinds). My only gripe is that I didn't know about these sooner! Love it!

Love this! It's perfect for the pup who insists on scratching the door to greet anyone coming in. I wish it was about 1/4 inch thinner because there is a tiny overhang on my door. I need one more to go above the door knob/deadbolt locks because he's taller and there are still scratches there. Hopefully, it will save me a paint job!
