Instructions
- It is recommended that the bottom of the hole is approximately the same level as your pet's stomach.
- Place this template in desired position on door and draw round completely.
- Prior to cutting the hole, drill 2 holes of approximately 1/4" diameter in top corners.
- Use an electric jig-saw to cut along the inside of the drawn line. Be careful to cut hole square to the door, particularly with thicker doors. Ensure that the frames are free-fitting in the hole.
- Determine the thickness of the panel in your door (see fig. 5).
For Panels 0 - 7/8 inches:
- Position interior frame on inside of door and mark the 4 screw positions.
- Remove frame and drill screw clearance holes in panel to approx. 3/16 inch diameter.
- Select the appropriate screws for the panel in your door (see fig 8).
- Then, using the appropriate screws and working from the inside of the house, tighten the interior frame to the exterior frame. When happy with installation cover screw heads with caps supplied.
For Panels 7/8 inches +:
- First screw interior frame to inside of panel with short 1/2 inch screws.
- Next drill out the 4 screw holes in the exterior frame to allow close clearance on screw. (Recommended drill 3/16 inch diameter.)
- Finally fix exterior frame to exterior of door using 3/4 inch screws. When happy with installation cover screw heads with caps supplied.

Will this work in a metal door?
Can this Cat Mate electromagnetic cat flap go into a wall instead of a door & if so do I need to get extra parts like the cat mate wall liner?
Can I order just the cat collar? We lost the one that. Came with our cat mate flap door.
Hi! I was wondering how far my cat needs to be from the door in order for the magnetic tag to not activate the lock on the door? Can she be a few inches away or would she have to be at least a foot away?

We have no issue with the door itself except one of our other cats figured out how to come in the door with the cat that has the collar. Not a complaint on the door, more on my cats for being too close. Another downside to think of is that the collar attachment will grab silverware so sometimes our cat walks around with a spoon hanging. Just something to consider if you go this route vs a microchip reader!
Our Cat Mate door has never let in an unwanted visitor.

We purchased our home in August of 1999. One of the first things that we had installed was this brand of cat door so that our cats could go from the house into the garage for food and litter box usage. Since we had a dog as well as the two cats, this was a wonderful option. We did have to use longer screws since the door to the garage is an exterior door, but the door that we purchased at the pet store in 1999 lasted until March of 2025! To all those who are thinking about purchasing this item...do it! The locking and such are easy enough to use, and with this going from the house into the garage, I use the lock option often when we have the garage door open and don't want our current babies going outside. The magnets are well-made, and once the kitties figure out that the 'click' means that the latch is released and they can go through, the hard part is over. I did use treats while pushing on the latch initially for my babies in 1999, but the new kitties took to it quickly since it was already in place and the older cat was using it. In any case, this is a well-made, solid cat door and has been a permanent fixture in our home. I was thrilled when I saw that this was still made since I didn't have to have someone come into my home and re-fit a new door--it is the exact same dimensions as the one we purchased in 1999. The next-best feature is that it keeps the dog out of the cat's food and their litter box!
Useless

Works well, just kind of a pain to install.

The unit works well, just make sure to have the magnet hang in the right direction when it's on the pet's collar. Goof that up and you'll have problems. The screws supplied with the unit to sandwich the door between the 2 halves were too short so I had to cut some of my own screws to the correct length. This is just a typical exterior, foam filled door. Then when I pulled the screws tight, the door would not swing freely. Even after loosening the screws a bit. I wound up gluing a weight to the door bottom to help it swing shut. But for simplicity, you can't beat the design. I'd still recommend this if you want a smart door without high tech electronics.

Easy to install, took a few tries before kitty go the hang of it. The lock latch (pop up from bottom) was misaligned during transit and would not initially unlatch - so had to take plate off from the front, and remove the spring and refit it in and afterward worked perfectly. Seems this is a known issue with transit. I called Chewy support and they talked me through the process. Great value for money.
Does exactly what I needed it to do.

I actually put this cat door on to a regular door in the house because I have a cat that doesn't want the other cats in their room, but does like to go explore the rest of the house. It took a while to get the hang of it, but now there are no problems.
Works well

I was hesitant after reading the reviews especially because I put mine in a window that my cat has to crawl into. He figured it out though and I made a better perch for him to crawl in more easily. They got to get their heads through first that’s the trick. He didn’t like the magnet for his collar for a few mins but he got over it. I gave him a scoop of wet food every time he used the cat door when I was home to reinforce the behavior.
