The Litter Cats Love

Dr. Elsey’s believes litter can be loved—by cats and their owners. They’re on a mission to help keep cats in loving homes by providing proven, veterinarian-formulated solutions.

They Speak for Cats

Dr. Elsey’s puts heart, soul, and science into every product to solve the complex needs of pets. Every problem calls for a solution, whether it’s bringing a fussy cat back to the box, keeping paws free of dust, or fueling pets’ ancestral dietary needs.

Bring Your Cat Back to the Box

A problem cat is one who chooses not to use the litter box. There are three likely causes: medical ailments, territorial marking, or behavioral issues. Cat Attract helps fight litter box aversion and bring cats back with a natural herb blend.

About Dr. Elsey’s

Dr. Elsey’s is a veterinarian-owned brand dedicated to meeting the complex needs of cats. Founded in 1987 with the first all-natural clumping cat litter, their line has since grown to include a variety of products for cats at every stage of life.

What is the major difference between this one and the Ultra Dr Elsey's litter?

Answer by ChewyJan 16, 2019
Precious Cat Classic is Dr. Elsey’s original litter and is very popular with cat owners who want a hard clumping, low tracking litter. It features a larger, denser particle that stays in the litter box better than fine grain litters. Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter is a unique for mulation that combines the heavy non-tracking granules of Precious Cat Classic with a medium-grain clay. The result is an excellent clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the tray while providing a clump that will not break down, and is perfect for multi-cat households.

Our cat is almost 7. I'd love to switch to a new litter (unscented and dust free). Would you recommend mixing his old litter with the new for a few days to a week or more so that he may get used to it and be more likely to use it? Open to any other suggestions too....

Answer by ChewyMay 30, 2018
We always recommended transitioning your cat when going from one litter to another. Transition Instructions 1. Pour Precious Cat into a clean litter box, using half as much as you would with a clay based litter. 2. Top off the Precious Cat with the litter you are using now, mixing as you add. 3. Give your cat time to get used to the crystal texture. 4. Once your cat is used to the crystal texture (about one week), empty the litter box completely into the trash, and refill with Precious Cat.

Can this be used for young kittens?

Answer by ChewyApr 06, 2021
This is appropriate litter for all life stages.

Is this fragrance free?

Answer by ChewyAug 29, 2019
This 100% natural clay litter is unscented, 99.9% dust free, and hypo-allergenic.

I think these types of litter box rocks that looks like cement is exactly what it feels like between the paws of our cats too. That is, especially when it is wet; my little Katie would step into it, this litter still will dry between her paws like cement. FYI: She had diabetes and will pee all day long in her box, so I would try to get to it at least four times a day without success before her sometimes too So please be aware so our cats don't have to feel little hard rock when they walk, which has to be painful I would think too. Can you imagine how that would feel to walk with between our toes?

The attractant helped wean Bastet from scented litter, this is clean and wholesome. The cats seem to prefer ordinary clay clumping litter - that is the box they all go to - we only had it because the new cat was used to it and in a separate room. He wasn't inclined to accept the transition. If your cat likes it, I highly recommend.

By far the worst litter I have ever used.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The urine balls that result are a combination of wet concrete, wet clay and glue - horrible. And trying to get it unstuck

If I could give zero stars, I would. The urine balls that result are a combination of wet concrete, wet clay and glue - horrible. And trying to get it unstuck from the littler box itself is a workout likely to break a plastic scoop. I wouldn't even donate this to a shelter. It is going to the trash. Harsh, I know, but this litter is awful.

Just ok

It’s ok, but does stick to my cats paws which leads to litter on the floor.

Less dust

This version seems to have a larger kernel of litter with a lot less dust. They get their digging n throwing litter time without the giant mess (most of the time)

Less messy

This is the least messing cat litter I have ever bought and I have 3 kitties and never have odor in home.

Sticks to Litter pan

Disappointed that I needed “heavy equipment” to remove the clump from the bottom of the litter pan.

Great litter

This is the best litter available and does not cost an arm and a leg. We have used this for many years.
