My cat loves the Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein duck and pork flavors. He's diabetic and needs a low carb food and he usually eats this right up. However, the last bag of pork flavor I opened has huge clumps of kibble stuck together instead of separate pieces. My guy is 13 years old and missing quite a few teeth, so he definitely can't chew these big pieces. I've been breaking them up as best as I can until I get another bag, but this has me wondering if the quality control has slipped a little. The ingredients in this brand are great, so I'd hate to start my search for a low carb, high protein kibble again but if this continues I might have to switch brands.

He used to stay near the bowl for several minutes until the whole packaged serving was devoured, bowl completely clean. I received the next shipment and suddenly he was barely eating any of it. Most of the time now I have to scrape food and throw it out. I'm so disappointed because it was he absolute favorite. Sure wish I knew what changed.

I am trying to switch to lower carb foods for a newly diagnosed diabetic cat, and this is a brand that has been highly recommended for years in the diabetic cat communities. It is a nice small kibble and my cats have been eating it mixed in with their current/older food, but it is still causing a little bm issue likely from the higher fat and protein content. I am going to slow the addition even more but might try the other varieties of protein base also.

I've had my cats since they were 8 weeks old; and they have tried a variety of raw, freeze dried, shredded, pate, and kibble. Their litter doesn't smell pleasant, of course.... but it did not almost knock you out. I thought maybe it was just the transition from kitten to young cat, but no I gave them just the wet food for 2 days and it was fine. When I switched to this kibble, even just add a little bit to their rotation, the litter smelled like a sewer.

Salmon no go

Tried to add another flavor in the mix. Pork and rabbit is our go to but unfortunately the rabbit has been discontinued. Our cats like the duck ok but not great. We have to limit chicken so we try to stay away from that as the main ingredient. So thought we would try salmon. 2 of our 3 cats threw up after eating it. Thought it was a fluke since one has IBD and it’s not uncommon for him but our other doesn’t usually. Didn’t serve it a few days. Reintroduced it again last night (slowly) and both threw up and our IBD boy has the runs so don’t think I can call it coincidence. Not sure if it’s a bad batch or they just don’t have a good reaction to the salmon. One of our cats did ok with it but she has a gut of steel.

It wasn’t NEWTON regular flavor

I wish they would go back to their ORIGINAL formula & please stop changing it! :( Our kitties have very sensitive stomachs in general plus have are super susceptible

I wish they would go back to their ORIGINAL formula & please stop changing it! :( Our kitties have very sensitive stomachs in general plus have are super susceptible to medical issues overall! This is a very important issue. I only buy this for her to graze on since she is diabetic & needs something in between her regular meals. This 1 is supposingly the better options of brands for that. Some of these pieces stuck together VS the other flavors. It is also expensive. expensive

Yummy!!

They love it! Since it's 95% animal protein I feel good feeding it to them. The get a scoop as a snack and on top of their wet food.

Cat Loves It

Love when I can find a compromise for my dry-food-loving cat that meets the nutritional expectations I have. He likes to switch between Pork and Chicken flavors

My cat, Falexis, is craving excessively water at all times of the day. I did not take her to the vet yet; however, I believe it is probably a sign of diabetes or some other disorder. :( I thought by buying this particular food, she would begin eating it and possibly get better. She did not touch it. My other cat, who eats anything, Bubba, didn't get near it either. :( I even gave it to my neighbor who has 2 cats and they snubbed their noses as well :( I was honestly going to try and return it, but ended up keeping it. I know the shelters won't even take it as it is opened :( Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

The first ingredient ( only the pork flavor) is Hydrolized Protein. This makes it easier for the body to utilize and absorb. It's also much easier on a cats kidney function. This formula also has chicken if your pet is allergic to chicken. My vet recommended this for 2 -16 yr.old cats. I wish I would have started them on this sooner. I posted a photo of ingredients which is listed on the CHEWY website. I also posted a WEB AI explanation of how hydrolyzed protein is good for your cat. I always recommend you take your vets advice for each of your pets and their individual needs.
