Why is ethylenediamine added to this dog food?

Answer by MellJan 02, 2026
That's a great question because it is also in antifreeze, industrial cleaners, pesticides- and I could go on. Nothing I would want to feed my dog (and I was considering it)

What portion of the total protein in the guaranteed analysis comes from animal protein sources?

NO MEAL, NO CORN, NO JUNK!

Most "grain free" dog foods say they are grain free but contain things like "soybean meal," "corn," and whatever meat they use "meal." I've also seen beet pulp listed

Most "grain free" dog foods say they are grain free but contain things like "soybean meal," "corn," and whatever meat they use "meal." I've also seen beet pulp listed on dog food that advertised "no fillers." This is the only dog food that doesn't have garbage in it. I look for food without yeast, meal or grains. I have one dog in my pack who has reactions to grains and yeast. This isn't the "perfect" dog food but short of cooking dinner for your dogs yourself, this is the best you'll find!

The reviews and comments on it were positive, but it’s still pricey. I know- put a price on your dog’s health and love, right? Well, in this economy , that tends to explain why so many people put their dogs into shelters- they love them too much to see them suffer when they cannot afford them. Sad but true. I am not that unfortunate luckily. It’s not the best, but ingredients are better than store-bought garbage and probably on par with pet store food but with door front delivery, so I keep buying from here.

All my babies approve of this. I give them 4 different types of food...Badlands Ranch, Dr Martys, Royal Canin, and now Dr. Pol. The Badlands & Dr. Martys are freeze dried, both have amazing ingredients! However, they are very expensive. So I have been looking for a filler food. They love the Royal Canin, however, the first main ingredients are "chicken by product meal, corn". Terrible, especially considering what it costs. So, I have been looking for a replacement and Dr. Pols is the winner! Main ingredients, Salmon, Peas, Sweet Potatoes, Green Lentils, Tapioca, Salmon Oil." My only complaint is the pieces are very hard! My little 14yo toy poodle has a hard time, so I bite them in half for him lol. I know, Im gross. He loves the food though. My year old Bernedoodles also love it!

I slowly introduced the food to my girl. However, after 2-3 days she would vomit several times a day. Chewy was nice enough to refund me and place a new order for her original dog food. In the meantime I have given her rice and sweet potatoes.. no vomit. I seen a couple other reviews mentioning the same. This is the first and last time I’ll try this brand.

After a few weeks and trying to increase Dr. Pol food Tiff developed loose stools. Not sure if it is due to her eating more or if too rich. Playing around with % of the two foods mixed. Also, the packaging to open and close is a pain. They either need to put instructions on the outside or discontinue the sealer as it just does not work.

Hooray for solid poops!

Switched to this from purina dog chow which gave my dog the runs really bad. Every poop since the switch has been solid! Plus he’s scratching a lot less. I guess

Switched to this from purina dog chow which gave my dog the runs really bad. Every poop since the switch has been solid! Plus he’s scratching a lot less. I guess where it’s salmon based though the only drawback is it makes him a little more stinky. Not his poops, but the actual dog. Small price to pay for the benefits. Plus it helps that this dog food is $20 or more cheaper than the other high end dog foods that often still contain common allergens.

Super disappointed

Due to Dr. Pol's reputation, I expected my Frenchie to love this food. First off, the smell was nasty in my opinion. Secondly, in spite of a two week transition

Delivery bad

Why can’t the put it by the door instead of the edge of the porch? I am old and bad back and heart. It’s not easy to move it inside!!

My 3 dogs will not eat this.

If I were to guess the problem keeping my 3 from liking or eating this, I would say it’s the small Very HARD pellets. My 3 prefer a softer chewier kibble.

The limited ingredients with salmon

dogs think it is delicious. I have one dog diagnosed with copper storage disease, so I was glad to see that some of the copper was easily digested, but not happy

dogs think it is delicious. I have one dog diagnosed with copper storage disease, so I was glad to see that some of the copper was easily digested, but not happy with the man made copper sulfate that is stored in the liver. I will keep looking for a dog food with no added man made copper. If not for having a dog with problem, I would give it 5 stars.
