Epizyme is used as a replacement therapy substituting enzymes normally produced by the pancreas that are needed to help digest and absorb fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. In pancreatic insufficiency, these enzymes are not produced in sufficient quantity.
Your pet's digestion will improve immediately, though it may take some time for your pet's weight, stools, hair coat, etc. to return to normal. In most cases, Epizyme needs to be given for the life of your pet.
PancrePlus powder for some reason last month, decided to more than double in price. I could not pay $300 for a 12oz bottle that lasts 6 weeks. No way. So our vet let us try this and I am so happy she did. I think it actually works better than PancrePlus powder and it's cheaper than PancrePlus powder even before their stupid price increase!
This product works just as well as the more expensive brands. I have a border collie with EPI and I was hesitant switching brands but after the price of the other brand tripled I decided to give this one a try. Works great and will continue buying this brand because it is a great value and it is effective.
Switched to Epizyme after cost of PancrePlus went up, my dog has done well so far on it (~4 wks). I use the same amount as PancrePlus. I would say my dog has smaller, more frequent stools now but all are formed.
My cat suffered off and on for years with stomach distress. I had been to the vet after vet trying to get a proper diagnosis and treatment for my poor baby. FINALLY, the right vet diagnoses my cat with EPI. After one dose, immediate improvement, without any negative side effects. This was the right med for my boy.
My dog was diagnosed with EPI by our veterinarian. He had lost a tremendous amount of weight, even though he was eating voraciously and acting otherwise normal. This condition of the pancreas is diagnosed by a blood test. The only remedy is lifelong treatment with pancreatic enzymes such as this product. I am convinced that without this medication Astro would have starved to death because his body was unable to digest food. There are other pancreatic enzymes available, all are Rx only. Other non-Rx "digestive enzyme" products do not treat this condition. I don't have any frame of reference to say that this particular product is better than others, but I can say that it appears to be helping my dog. I was impressed and appreciative that Chewy was able to get the medication to us very quickly (it is not carried by my vet since the condition it treats is rare.) It is expensive, but Chewy had the best price I could find and I think the 12 oz bottle will last at least 2 months. Astro has been taking this medication for about a month and he is slowly regaining weight.
Love it!! Works just like Pancreas Plus but much cheaper!!!! :)
Such a great lady to talk to on the phone, and so helpful...also nice to not have to worry about getting this important Rx for my puppy - she'll need this her entire life - one less worry is a great thing - Thank you for that
This medication is an enzyme that my dog must have before each meal. Without this medication my dog would starve to death. We started out on Viokase that was 3 times more expensive. Epizyme has exact same ingredients and so far does the trick. Chewy got this to us very quickly. Very satisfied.
Works great. My dog needs to be on this for live, started 3 weeks ago. Oh what a different. Works wonders
We have a dog with EPI. His pancreas does not produce the enzymes necessary to digest food. Without this enzyme, he would lose weight to the point that he would eventually die of malnutrition.
