Create a tropical habitat for your pet with Exo Terra Plantation Soil Brick Tropical Terrarium Reptile Substrate. Substrate is necessary to the health and well-being of your pet because it absorbs waste, helps control humidity levels and encourages burrowing. Exo Terra Plantation Soil Brick Tropical Terrarium Reptile Substrate is made from compressed coconut husk fiber from the plantations of tropical Asia. This ecological substrate is ideal for increasing humidity in the terrarium and is safe for frogs, salamanders and burrowing or digging animals. The substrate can also be used as an incubation medium and as a nutritional planting soil for live plants.

Place the brick in a 2.6-gallon bucket and add 100 fl oz water. Let it soak for about 30 minutes until it completely absorbs the water. Stir the substrate to ensure that no clumps remain and that the substrate is ready to use.
Spread a 1-2" layer of Exo Terra Plantation Soil on the terrarium floor (up to 4" when used for burrowing animals or as planting soil). Water or mist the substrate according to the humidity level required and use an Exo Terra Hygrometer (Item #103922) to monitor the humidity level.

I've used this for years and this has got to be a quality issue...I have had it sitting in water for 3+ hours and one of 9 bricks expanded. I had to take a shovel to break bricks apart and then use hands to break down further...will be looking for alternatives
This does not absorb water at all. I had to sit and pick apart the bricks with my hands and a knife and it still was not soaking up the water. Biggest waste of money. I’m extremely unhappy with this product and will not be recommending this or buying this ever again. The eco earth bricks by zoo med were much better and I’m upset that they no longer carry them.
I bought a few packages of the (3) bricks Hands down the worst coir bricks I’ve come across. I don’t know how long will be waiting for this stuff to expand? The price was too good to be true.
I ordered three of these because I needed a lot for some projects, worst decision and waste of my money. I did exactly as the instructions told but they won't dissolve into dirt at all, and I can barely split them into layers, even after they've soaked for over a week.
This soil i was told was great. It is not!!! The package says it will take 30 minutes to dissolve all three blocks. I only need one currently and it is 8:49 pm where i live and i started at 1:30 pm and IT STILL HASNT DISSOLVED INTO DIRT!!! nothing will even come off of the block!! I have tried cold water and boiling hot water and NOTHING has worked!!!
Have bought for 9 years. Always expands fully within 30 mins. The last 2 orders do not expand at all. Remain a solid brick. Absorbing the water but never breaking apart. Chewy sent a replacement and the replacement was defective as well. Chewy issued a refund.
This is great if ur wanting soil. It is time consuming but worth it. Takes a few days to dry out.. but perfect for moist hides. I find I prefer coco fiber. It’s less messy. But the soil is nice quality. 1 brick makes a bucket of soil
I've purchased these before and I was impressed.... but something changed and not for good. I soaked the first block for 3 days and it was still ROCK HARD. The second block i poured boiling water on and let it sit until the water was cool enough to touch, still rock hard and extremely difficult to separate. I ended up throwing them away.
This stuff does not expand when soaked even for hours and hours. I had to use a chisel to separate the brick. Spent 2 hours breaking the bricks up by hand. This product should be pulled.
Absolutely the best substrate for my turtles and for such a great price
