Hello, I have a Leopard Gecko and was wondering if I could transition them from a normal reptile carpet to this without the Leo feeling discomfort.

Answer by ChewyJan 11, 2022
This is suitable for all desert reptiles including leopard geckos. While individual preference may vary, this substrate is designed to absorb waste, helps control humidity levels and encourages burrowing.

I really loved the look of this and the idea of it possibly sanding down her nails is great. If you buy this, you can't have it anywhere they will potty. It gets soaked right up and even if you try to get it up right away it loosens up the glue and all of the sand and gravel come right off in that spot.

So I like it and like the idea of it being close to a bearded dragons natural habitat BUT the biggest issue is the fall off. It's basically sand and pebbles glued to a foam mat. Lots of fall off and im concerned about ingestion of the product. Ready to take it out of the tank and send it back or trash it. She likes to scratch at the glass in one spot and now there's no sand in that spot. It does not stay on easily at all. Soft sandpaper would be a better option.

I do like this product, but you need to be a little careful to avoid possible impaction. I bought mine for my leopard gecko. I had to thoroughly bush it off to get any loose substrate off. I personally would not use this with a reptile like a bearded dragon; way too risky. But I think it works well for a leopard gecko if properly prepared.

Great product!

I've used this with my leopard gecko for over a year now and it looks fantastic! There is some sand that falls off initially, but it does not leave the mat bare like some reviews say. It looks really good and doesn't run any risk of impaction like loose substrates can or any risk of toes or chins snagging like on a regular carpet. The main drawback is definitely that it is nearly impossible to clean! My gecko is nice enough to poop all in one corner so it wasn't too difficult to chip off once it dried, but it is a pain! So other than having to replace it after a while when it gets too dirty, I have no complaints with this product!
