I just received this bulb and it has a buzzing noise coming from it ?

Answer by ChewyJan 16, 2018
The Exo Terra Solar Glo must be housed in a fixture with a ceramic/porcelain base that is rated for at least the wattage of the lamp. Don't use a plastic socket as it is a fire hazard and will void the warranty. The Solar Glo must be mounted in a vertically oriented fixture so the bulb points straight down and not at an angle.

hi I am needing a couple of these bulbs I was wondering how hot 2 of these bulbs will be combined when used together in the same basking area I have a 8 foot cage that is 6 feet high and 4 feet wide

Answer by ChewyNov 03, 2019
The temperature of these lamps may vary depending upon many factors, including ambient air temperature. With a distance of 4 inches, the 125 watt will reach a temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit and the 160 watt will reach a temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Please click on the attached photo for lighting charts to help determine what will work best for your specific habitat.

would this be good for a blue tongued skink and what watt should i use for a 40 gallon critter cage

Answer by ChewyDec 19, 2018
Blue-tongued skink enclosures should have ambient temperatures on the cool side from 75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. The warm end should include a basking area of 90 to 100 degrees. The 125 or the 160 watt will each work for a 40 gallon cage.

Would this bulb fit in the mini dome fixture

Answer by ChewyOct 28, 2018
The Exo Terra Solar Glo is a self-ballasted mercury vapour lamp, which fits into a standard ceramic socket (No ballast needed). Can be used with the Exo Terra Light Dome, the Exo Terra Reptile Dome or the Exo Terra Wire Light.

I’ve been using these bulbs for over a decade, 125W for my Greek and leopard torts, Southern painted, and beardie. Remember when they were $35/piece. Sigh. Great combo lamps for getting your reptiles all the UV they need when they go to bask. These things drink down a ton of energy, you must make sure that you have the appropriate ceramic (meaning the part you screw the bulb into is ceramic) facing straight down dome otherwise they won’t work properly and worse could cause a fire. These bulbs have a safety mechanism that trips when it gets too hot or a surge, hence that they go off for like 15 minutes then come back on. It’s best to have some sort of protector to plug the dome in, and make sure your electrical line can handle it and you don’t have too much on that circuit breaker, or you’ll have a problem. They are delicate and will get stuck in the dome if you screw them too tight. Figured it out and your reptiles will love you! Like I said, my oldest guy is 11 so this will keep them healthy. I usually change mine every 6 months, but 4 reps 2x year can get expensive not including the electricity costs. You can go cheap to super expensive and buy a UV detector if you want to stretch the bulb life because you won’t know when the UV portion will go out as the light/ heat aspect of the bulb will keep going even after the UV dies.

Bulb blew as soon as I plugged in the lamp

As soon as I plugged the lamp in, the bulb blew & quit working. I'm glad I got 2 of them, but I still have a beardie that needs a new bulb.

I use the Exo Terra Solar Glo All in One Reptile Bulb, 125-watt for my tortoise whenever he needs to be indoors due to bad weather, and it works perfectly. It’s incredibly convenient having an all-in-one bulb that provides heat, UVA, and UVB—no need to fuss with multiple fixtures. The 125-watt strength is just right for his large enclosure, keeping the temperature and lighting at optimal levels. I’ve trusted Exo Terra for years, and this bulb is another great example of their reliable, high-quality products. Highly recommend for any reptile owner needing an easy and effective indoor lighting solution.

This product is amazing! I have a bearded dragon and I was so happy to get something to try for her! The quality is amazing as well as the packaging. Usually the packaging is kind of flimsy and I have received from different brands in the past broken bulbs because the packaging wasn’t secure enough.

This bulb is a really great idea. I love that it allows you to have a basking bulb and uvb all in one. It saves so much space, and saves you from having to buy two domes. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the light it puts out is the color of a uvb bulb, and I just don’t love that color light.

This bulb produces a good heat spot for my beardie, but it is somewhat concentrated and the bulb cannot be dimmed. Taking a measurement with my UVB meter, there is an extremely high spike in the reading within about 8” of the bulb, so take caution when placing it as too close could result in burns.

Great performance, short life

Exo Terra bulbs perform great, but they tend to have a shorter lifespan before they blow than others. They are always perfect temp and my reptiles thrive with them

Exo Terra bulbs perform great, but they tend to have a shorter lifespan before they blow than others. They are always perfect temp and my reptiles thrive with them. They have worked perfectly between different enclosure types and species. My only gripe is the lifespan. They are great if you can bulk buy for sales though.

Great heat source for bearded dragons! The bulb fits in a standard hood and provides consistent heat needed by bearded dragons. I work at a humane society and this bulb arrived in time to welcome a new bearded dragon in our care. He loves basking under it and it!
