How do I get my tortoise to bite the block??

Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2019
This may just take time. Many pet parents have had to reintroduce the calcium block 1-2 months later before their tortoises would show interest. If your tortoise is not interested in the block now, romaine lettuce can fed as a great source of calcium in the meantime.

is this good for African spured tortoise, shes about 35 pds.

Is this used for baby tortoises?

Answer by ChewyApr 04, 2024
The Banquet tortoise block can be given to hatchling tortoises you will just need to break it into smaller pieces. You can take a flat head screw driver and a hammer to it to make smaller pieces your young tortoises can chew on.

My tortoises would nibble on it a little bit, but it molded quickly in the enclosure. I kept it on a dry area but I guess the humidity was too much fo it in the tortoise house. I discarded it when I saw the mold. I probably had it in the enclosure less than 2 weeks. I'll stick with cuttle bones.

I have a fussy tortoise. He won't eat many things that are supposed to be good for him. He prefers fruits, some vegetables, and some flowers. I have tried to encourage him to try this food, and he just walks away. He is an 80+ year old spoiled tortoise.

Moldy disgusting waste of money

I put in turtle enclosure and it turned into a nasty dark green. Needless to say my turtle did not eat it. I threw it away.. don’t waste your money.

My Tortoises Said "No Thank You!"

Unfortunately none of my four tortoises likes this even a little. They prefere their fresh greens with calcium sprinkled on it. I was disappointed.

Tortoise doesn't seem interested

I was told my tortoise loved these when I got him, but now I'm like three in and I haven't seen him use it at all. Probably not buying again.

Great treat for red-footed tortoise

Really helps with nutrition and scraping down his beak after overgrown a bit.

Meh

I’m not sure if my tortoise is picky, but she has not touched the block.
