  • Fantastic price on the best reptile substrate out there.

    By on

I have 15 reptiles in my collection that use this substrate, along with a number of arachnids and insects. Nothing holds humidity better or repels fungus better. Forest floor has it all over any kind of cocoa husks or other substrate I have tried, and I have tried almost all of them. And it's very economical in that it is easy to spot clean. Also, it is a soft bedding that is easy on reptiles and is not very likely to adhere to frozen thawed prey. Finally, my blood pythons, who especially love to dig and burrow, live for this stuff. It is very easy for them to move about and pretend they are sand worms under a nice fluffy soft bedding. I will order from Chewy's as long as they can maintain this I have 15 reptiles in my collection that use this substrate, along with a number of arachnids and insects. I really like the cypress bedding! The coconut makes such a mess and I was thrilled when I found this, it's much cleaner and stays moist for a longer period of time.

  • Acceptable substrate

I normally use Jungle Mix substrate for my blue tongue skink but that was getting expensive (About a dollar per quart). I heard a lot of good things about using cypress mulch as a substrate for skinks. The price is definitely much more affordable. If you have a blue tongue that requires a higher than average humidity, like mine which is a Merauke blue tongue, you will need to mist the substrate daily to keep the humidity up which can be an inconvenience unless you buy a mist machine. And for what it is, I wouldn't let a young child handle this substrate as it is prickly and has some sharp edges. I was at first concerned if it will poke my skink's eye or scratch him but so far, so good. However, it appears that he still prefer the peat moss over this as he is not burrowing as much as he normally would. For now, I will finish this bag and wait and see before making a final decision of whether or not I will be staying with this substrate. For the price and quantity, it's a good buy from Chewy for anyone who is set to use this type of bedding. … more
