Famotidine is prescribed to help pets who suffer from a variety of digestive disorders including ulcers, gastritis, and reflux.
Famotidine is tolerated well in most pets, but a loss of appetite and lethargy have been reported. If a pet seems ill while taking Famotidine, call your veterinarian as soon as possible for further advice.
Discuss all medications and supplements the pet is currently taking with your veterinarian prior to giving Famotidine. Some interactions have been reported with other antacids, metoclopramide, sucralfate, digoxin, and ketoconazole. Other interactions are possible. Famotidine should be given 2 hours before or after other medications have been given unless your veterinarian instructs you differently.
Do not administer this medication if a pet has a known allergy to Famotidine or other histamine blockers. Give Famotidine with extreme caution in older animals, animals with heart, liver, or kidney disease or pregnant animals. Famotidine can sometimes cause a low white blood cell count especially in animals that are taking other bone marrow suppressing drugs such as azathioprine.
This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, it is common practice for veterinarians to prescribe such drugs for use in dogs and cats.
Famotidine.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. Do not stop administering this medication or change dosage without explicit instructions from a professional.
Tablets should be stored in well-closed, light-resistant containers at room temperature.
This is a medication that is administered by mouth when your pet has certain digestive disorders such as gastritis (stomach inflammation), ulcers, and reflux.
Give all medication orally based on your veterinarian's prescribed directions. If you do not understand how to use Famotidine correctly, call your veterinarian for further instructions.
Famotidine blocks the production of histamine in the body. Histamine is a chemical that leads to acid production in the body so acid production is decreased when this chemical is blocked.
Famotidine does not cure gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as ulcers, gastritis, or reflux but it can help decrease symptoms and help your pet to feel better. Symptoms are usually relieved quickly once Famotidine is given.
My cat has IBD and was projectile vomiting a few times a month. After ultrasounds and blood tests and expensive cat food over $2,500 she stopped eating and was down to 6 pounds from 16 and looked like death. The vet was ready to put her down. Then I read on Google that cat pepcid is the cure for IBD so I asked the vet, who said, okay we can try it. Well, what do you know? Just 2 cents worth of Famotidine a day cured her! That was a year ago and she gained all her weight back and is her old wonderful self. I encourage you to search Google and advocate for your pet, not just trust drs.
Have a furbaby with a sensitive tummy. Vet ordered this for him and wow does it work! Thank you to Chewy Pharmacy for getting approval so quickly and getting the med to me for my baby, he is one happy little boy loving his food all over again!
I adopted my old man already on famotidine, but it really works for him. I have not risked taking him off it, but he never gets a sour tummy :)
I need to quarter these pills and they can't be quartered. too small and texture too chalky.
Like the other review stated, my aussie was throwing up almost every morning and was making him very cranky with an upset stomach. It was getting miserable for everyone involved. We even switched him to a sensitive stomach food at the recommendation of our vet, but it wasn't helping. We've been giving him 1 pill twice a day ever day now for many months and he hasn't thrown up once and his temperament is so much better!
My Cairn Terrier was throwing up almost every morning.I was giving him Omeprazole, which would stop the vomiting and belly ache but it was not pro-active, he still was constantly sick. The tablets were crazy expensive. My boyfriend said, you know, he acts a like like me when I have acid re-flux.Hmm...well you can't by 10mg over the counter only 20mg - human dose, so I came here and ordered it. My vet agreed to give it a shot, obviously preventative better than after the fact. He has not been sick once since he started the Famatidine. I was so worried, all the bad thoughts, cancer, ulcers, is he going to be OK?For under $10 per month he is healthy and happy.
