Frequently Asked Questions

Why do your products appear different at times?

Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.

Chicken Fat and Chicken Allergies:

Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.

Do you use GMO ingredients?

No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.

What is a meal? How does it compare to a fresh meat?

Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.

  • Dog not happy

    By on

We bought this since the prior dog food we bought was temporarily out of stock. Our dog has been barking and whining that he is hungry. He will only eat half the bowl. He will continue to beg for treats all day even though there is food leftover in his dish. The dog food we bought before this, he would be doing circles and wagging his tail for. Now we are trying something else once again.

  • Lower protein for older dogs

    By on Top 250 Contributor

Bought because of the lower protein recommended for older dogs....less strain on the kidneys and liver. Must be very tasty because my cats keep trying to take if from Matrix, my 11 year old Catahoula. Finally started giving them one or two for treats. Matrix has no stomach upsets and eats every bit of it (mixed with her organic canned turkey). Her coat is beautiful and she is healthy.

  • Great food for a 1 - Kidney Dog in Renal Failure

    By on

Our dog had a kidney removed and the other - well, we've been told it boarders renal failure so protection is VITAL. He's a 5-year old Akita, about 95lbs. After several hours of research this dog food - specifically the Senior - had the best phosphorus levels for a grain-free, high quality dry dog food - exactly what we needed. I use a combination of this and a Castor and Pollux Tripe Wet Dog food (Half and Half). After keeping him on a steady diet, his kidney values seem consistent. It's a bonus that he loves it!

  • So far so good

    By on

I was looking for a senior grain free dry dog food that was also NOT chicken or turkey and weight management. So far so good... diarrhea has stopped and my 13 yr old Lab eats it usually. Whether it will help with weight management is too early to tell. Thanks for helping me find it!

  • Wonderful product for aging dogs

    By on

I bought this for my weimaraner after she developed arthritis at 11 and I had noticed she was gaining a bit of weight. She loves it and having already been on grain free for the majority of her life, this seemed like the next step to keep her happy as she ages. My beagle and weim puppy get a few pieces mixed in with their normal kibble as well and seem more excited about their meal times now. So glad I found this product on an already well appreciated site and thankful they are keeping the price reasonable so I can continue to afford it for my sweet girl as she ages.

  • Perfect kibble for our 10 yo GSD

    By on

Our GSD has been, is, and always will be a picky eater. But he loves this kibble - as a matter of fact, instead of allowing us to mix the old and new (so he could get used to it, don't ya know), he didn't just eat around the old kibble. No. He SPAT OUT the old kibble, insisting that he only eat this new kibble. So there you go - I didn't taste it myself, but it appeals to our picky picky GSD.
