Unlike other muzzles that resemble cages, this muzzle is softer, lighter and less restrictive. It’s durable and pliable, so it’s gentle on your horse’s lips and teeth. It provides plenty of ventilation and features an adjustable grazing hole size, so you can decide just how much grass your horse should have access to. You can attach it to any halter, and the muzzle is designed to break just before your turnout halter does for safety.

I refuse to use the 'basket' muzzles on my horses, they are horrible for their necks, and so hot and rub terribly. I've used the original European (flatter) Greenguards for years, but they can be hard to fit, and the new square style rubbed off my horses chin in hours. These are wonderful! To be fair, a pain to fit, but worth the effort. I cut the whole a bit larger for my less insulin resistant 'kids,' and padded out the halter noseband to keep it from hanging too low. The real test came when my mare managed to catch it in the automatic waterer. I was sure it would just come apart, but the zip ties did exactly what they were supposed to do, and she was unscathed, as was the actual muzzle. Well worth the price of a few extra zip ties. I would recommend cutting the pieces above the nostrils a bit so they can be spaced better without being over the actual nostril, but overall these are working fabulously for all my seniors who are founder risks, allowing them to be out all day with their buddies.
I really like a lot of things about this muzzle. It is lightweight, doesn’t absorb moisture and doesn’t cause rubs or sores on horse’s muzzle or face. Besides the one I bought for my pony, I recommended this muzzle to several of my clients. Much to our dismay, in some instances the hole began to fray and wear out within one month to one week. The one I purchased lasted about 8 weeks before it started coming apart at the hole. Not the typical wear you see in a Tough 1 muzzle that is a gradual thinning, but a ripping of the material causing a flap that irritates the horse’s gums. For the price of these muzzles I would expect to get a season out of one. My horses are on night turn out, so wear them about 12 hours a day.
This has been a literal life saver for my Cushings gelding. He refused to wear any other brand of muzzle. He was extremely overweight and after using all Spring and early Summer he’s back to a healthy weight. He can breathe, drink, lick salt and eat small amounts without feeling trapped! I’m buying a back up!
Flexible Filly grazing muzzle was about 30% cheaper & seems more comfortable than the Green Guard muzzle & LOTS more airy & softer than the black ones. I DID have to use a sharp box cutter to enlarge the hole a bit. This material is TOUGH but flexible. I attached it to a halter that has fuzzy padding on the nose. Set up is tedious, but once you get it done, daily use is easy.
I have gone through numerous types of muzzles. So far this is the only one my mare hasn't figured out how to get out of....I appreciate the adjustability.
I was skeptical at first of these grazing muzzles but was intrigued to read how they drain faster when horses drink than other muzzles on the market. I feel badly enough my Arabians need to wear muzzles 100% of the time out on the pasture this year. Didn’t feel like adding to their discomfort. Adjusting the muzzles on the halters took some trial and error on my part. I wasn’t sure if the additional zip ties the company sold were worth it. After using a few regular zip ties I found I appreciated the Flexible Filly ones because they angle the cut portion so it doesn’t stick out as much. I ended up using a few regular ones and just filed the cut portion down so there weren’t any sharp areas. Additionally, I cut the grazing hole slightly larger for my mare one time but my gelding couldn’t figure out how to eat with his muzzle so I ended up trimming his twice. Overall, I think buying these muzzles was 100% worth it. They have been used 24/7 for over a month and show very little wear. I’m pretty confident they will last at least a few grazing seasons.
This appears to be a good product, though expensive. Reason for 4 stars is I am unsure of its durability, since it is designed to break before the halter does. So far so good, and my girl can be tough on muzzles trying to get them off. She has been turned out 2 hrs. am and 2 hrs. pm in this muzzle for 2 weeks. She is certainly more comfortable in this than any of her other muzzles and this will be good for her on hot days. There was a little frustration at first due of the small opening but that is what she needs, (tough love!). This stopped after a hour or so. I attached it to a regular adjustable breakaway halter due to cost. I added a sheepskin fleece nose piece off the "midieval" muzzle I had, and it worked well to protect aganist the tie wraps rubbing. They do run big. Got the cob/horse and it fit my quarterhorse with room to spare. It would be too big for my welsh pony.
I tried two sizes of muzzle and halter. My horse has a long skinny face so no matter what the combination I did, it just didn't work. The horse size muzzle was not long enough and when I lowered the halter it was just a big gappy mess. Not safe. I would not recommend this product at all. It was very time consuming to try to fit also. Total waste of time:(
Purchased this for my fat Quarab. The hole was tiny and it was not that easy to cut. The zip ties supplied with it were pathetic and did not hold it in place. Replaced them and its holding. It is light and airy so better than some others. Not sure how it will hold up. $65 is too expensive.
Came in extremely timely!!! My sister's horse needs it....haven't seen any evidence of use yet, that's her problem. Always great doing business with y'all, and again, FABULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thanks!!
