How long do they live?

Answer by SvmomDec 03, 2025
Not long, they packaged them without any food/bran and unless you are familiar and have a colony or things to keep a colony they would die quickly. Also wasn’t anywhere near 1000 worms. More like the 250 cups that I buy in stores. I will not order mealworms from here again. They were packaged more like roaches and could easily loose any smaller worms through the screen.

How are they stored in the box for shipping, are they in a plastic container?

Answer by ChewyFeb 03, 2025
The mealworms are either in a box or a cardboard round canister, with egg crates, depending on how many you order.

I ordered the mealworms after checking the forecast. (It is January). It took over two weeks for them to arrive and the weather did change. I had to keep checking with Chewy because the tracking did not work. I had to arrange for someone to be at my house to get them inside.

I just love these little bugs.

Unlike from other suppliers in town, these little insects are healthy. Very few look sick upon arrival and most of these perk up within 2 days. Better take care

Easy Care Snacks

It's a process; but, worth it. Enough to share with my friend and daughter to start their own meal worm farm.

Exceptional packaging

All arrived alive and I was very impressed with the packaging. They last longer than mealworms from other suppliers.

Caution: Mealworms are loose and ready to run!

Only order these mealworms if you are prepared to chase down hundreds of the little buggers that come packed loose in the box! Many of them had taken up a position under the flaps, so as soon as you open the box, it's a race against the clock to catch the bugs that are scrambling everywhere. I ended up throwing the still half-full box into the refrigerator to force a time out before resuming the race. Birds don't have to work half as hard to catch an insect! And the mealworms weren't even a good size. Order these at your own risk!
