is this the red or gold substrate?

Answer by ChewyNov 19, 2025
This is all-natural, fine orange sand.

How would I clean and swap out to fresh sand from my enclosure? How often should it be changed?

Answer by ChewyNov 11, 2025
You can spot clean the sand regularly. For some pets or busier enclosures, that might mean weekly or even daily. A full sand change every few months, or as your pet’s care routine suggests, helps keep their habitat fresh and healthy.

How many lbs would I need to have at least 2" of substrate in a 4'x2' enclosure?

Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2020
Determining how much substrate to buy depends on the size and shape of your tank, as well as the depth of the substrate bed you wish to achieve. We suggest 1 pound of substrate per gallon to achieve a 1 inch bed, or 2 pounds per gallon for a 2 inch deep bed.

The quality is the best ive found. I used a colander to get some of the biger rocks out wich wasnt alot , not really dusty like the other sands ive tried and the color is a nice natural red . My beardie loves to dig in it and pancake out because it holds the heat better then other brands. I wont use any other loose substrate for my girl.

Arguably the perfect bearded dragon substrate!

Don't fall for the "impaction myth", this is the actual substrate from Australia, from the bearded dragons natural habitat. Its about as good as it gets!

Okay, Best To Mix With Organic Soil

Using this alone for your lizard could cause serious impaction if your temperatures are not correct. However, this is a great choice for those wanting to mix it
