Keep your aquarium clean and healthy by growing beneficial bacteria with Fluval Biomax Bio Rings Filter Media. One of the most important ways to maintain good water quality and keep your fish thriving is seeding your aquarium with good bacteria. This bacteria breaks down harmful ammonia from fish waste and other organic matter and starts the aquarium nitrogen cycle. Fluval Biomax Bio Rings Filter Media have a complex pore system creating an optimal environment where this beneficial bacteria can thrive. These small, cylindrical filter media have more capacity than most biological filter media, allowing aquarium water to have optimal contact time for efficient biological filtration that reduces and controls ammonia.

Instructions
Use to provide biological filtration. Suitable for all external filters.
Remove protective plastic bag and rinse thoroughly with terrarium-safe, chlorine-free water. Place directly into media basket or filter chamber, depending on canister filter style. For optimal filtration, place at the end of the filtration process.
Rinse monthly using water from the terrarium. Never rinse with tap water or any water that could contain chlorine. Replace every 6 months, depending on fish load.
Do not replace all filter media simultaneously. Stagger media replacement to ensure constant bacterial populations.
Do we need a net bag for it or just put it in the filter like that?

Can these rings be used in the refillable media cartridges that go in the Biowheel Penguin 350 hang-on filter? If so, do you recommend this over loose carbon?

This product is intended to be placed directly into media basket or filter chamber, depending on canister filter style.
It states this product reduces ammonia..is there any proof it actually reduces ammonia?

The manufacturer uses extensive research and development in production of their products. The bacteria colonies living in and on the biofilter media act as a nitrifying bacteria farm, releasing a steady supply of new beneficial bacteria to recolonize the entire aquarium.
I have a fluval 404 will these work. If so where should they be place at the top or bottom of the baskets?

I needed filter media for a relatively expensive filter I'd purchased last year that is no longer manufactured and they do not off any replacement media, took a chance on this and it worked out perfectly at a very reasonable price.

useful but
will definitely change the ph of your tank when first introducing, so I would recommend daily monitoring for the first two weeks at least especially if using for a goldfish tank, as their slime coats are sensitive to lower ph. Great value. Don’t forget to rinse them

Great prices!
The selection and prices can't be beat on Chewy! As a science teacher with a lot of classroom pets to take care of, I appreciate it. Fluval is my go to brand for aquarium supplies for sure.

Great for canister tanks
These are a great deal for the price and are a one time purchase so you can’t go wrong. I rinse them in a bucket with aquarium water after each water change and have never had any problems.

great bio filter media
I usually use this product for my aquarium, but I had decided to change to a different bio media when I couldn't find it at the store. After 2 months, I noticed my fish weren't doing so well. So I changed back and they are healthy again.

Love these!
I love these things. They are bigger than I had expected, but I have them placed in my HOB filter and it's doing wonders for my tank. Glad I got these. Very satisfied with my purchase.
