Does this bed have a solid large layer of memory foam or is it scrap pieces thrown together?

I have a 115lb Akita. He likes to lay on his side when he sleeps. Does the dimensions of the X-large offer "sprawling" room for him to fully relax?

We recommend measuring your pet in their natural sleeping position to find the perfect bed size. Pets who curl up to sleep can fit on a smaller bed, while pets who stretch out need a larger bed. To determine the ideal bed length, measure your pet in his or her normal sleeping position, then add 4-6 inches for cats and small dogs, or 8-12 inches for medium to large dogs. When in doubt, we suggest ordering the bigger size. For the complete sizing chart, click the “Size” tab, next to the “Instructions” tab, just under the product photos.

Very supportive

Kuma wasn’t used to this bed at first but when he did, he almost always moved from his other bolstered bed over to this one after just sleeping on the bolstered

Kuma wasn’t used to this bed at first but when he did, he almost always moved from his other bolstered bed over to this one after just sleeping on the bolstered bed for maybe 30 min-1 hr, as I believe he tends to overheat (poodle with lots of fur). The bed seems to let him cool down more and is soft on his joints. My family once spilled water on the bed and I could peel off the outer cover and let it dry out and replace the cover which was convenient. Highly recommended for a large dog

Not as firm as orthopedic foam. Unclear what is “cooling"

Foam is not the hard-to-crush consistency usually associated with “orthopedic” dog beds and not very thick. What may be considered the cooling aspect is the silky

Foam is not the hard-to-crush consistency usually associated with “orthopedic” dog beds and not very thick. What may be considered the cooling aspect is the silky cover and airy thin layer of foam atop the bed - it may not retain body heat, but no magic “cooling” aspect to it. The cover got dirty easily, so I popped it in the wash, and that was fine. It’s an OK, low-end-ish dog bed.

Cooling and orthopedic

Our Rottie has hip dysplasia, so he needs support. Both our dogs love the bed because it has a cooling gel inside! It is perfect for their needs!
