Can this be used for chicks?

The size tab only gives dimensions for one panel. It is not clear how many panels are included. What is square footage when set up as a rectangle?

There are 8 panels included, each measuring 18 inches wide by 15 inches tall. When set up as a square, the square footage is 9 ft².

does it come with a mat as well?

This Frisco playpen does not include the mat.

can 2 be clipped together to make a bigger cage?

This playpen comes as one unit with the panels attached. Two playpens cannot be clipped together.

Not Syrian hamster proof

This is essentially a good product. It's solid, stable and provides a lot of space for small animals, such as guinea pigs or a tiny rabbit. However, a rat is going

This is essentially a good product. It's solid, stable and provides a lot of space for small animals, such as guinea pigs or a tiny rabbit. However, a rat is going to figure out how to escape this pen in under 2 minutes. Our hamster took two days to learn how to escape. He just climbs up the bars and gone he is. It needs something, like a lid or different types of bars that would make it escape-proof. As is, it's a useless product.

Small Pet Playpen

I use this to 'corral' the pee pads. My one complaint is that the tips of the vertical wires that make up the walls of the playpen are fairly rough and will 'grab'

I use this to 'corral' the pee pads. My one complaint is that the tips of the vertical wires that make up the walls of the playpen are fairly rough and will 'grab' the top layer of the pee pads. Makes it a bit annoying while trying to change the pads.
