Halo crafts their plant-based recipes with a mindful approach to sustainability. Their ingredients are sustainably and responsibly sourced for a gentler impact on the environment. Packed with high-quality protein derived solely from plants, Halo’s vegan recipes use only non-GMO ingredients.

Complete Digestive Health

Immunity starts with a healthy gut. That’s why Halo Holistic is made with prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics for complete digestive health. Prebiotics help nourish good gut bacteria, while probiotics help digest food. Postbiotic compounds help support immune health and overall well-being.

More Protein for Energy

Made with lots of high-quality protein to support muscle maintenance, higher energy and an optimal amino acid profile.

Skin & Coat Support

Halo Holistic recipes have extra omega fatty acids to support healthy skin and a shiny,  soft coat.

Digestive Support

Probiotics and postbiotics in these recipes help support every stage of digestion plus immunity and overall well-being.

Planet-Friendly Packaging

A stay-fresh zipper helps keep food fresh, and Halo partners with TerraCycle to make it easy to recycle your packaging.

Plant-Based Nutrition

Ideal for dogs with animal-protein allergies or those whose pet parents live a vegan lifestyle, Halo’s plant-based recipes are made with sustainable, humane ingredients that provide complete and balanced nutrition. Made with 100% vegan ingredients, they include high-quality plant proteins and no animal ingredients whatsoever. That means lower greenhouse gas emissions and a kinder impact on the planet. They also use only non-GMO ingredients to support ecological biodiversity and well-being.

Prebiotics, Probiotics & Postbiotics

Halo gives you more than just probiotics to help support digestive health. While probiotics are important, helping to digest food, absorb nutrients and maintain gut health, they work even better when paired with prebiotics and postbiotics. Prebiotics feed and nourish good gut bacteria, creating the ideal environment for digestion. Postbiotics help support immune health and overall good health. Together, these three are a digestive health powerhouse!

Is this hydrogenized? My dog has a liver problem and needs it hydrogenated

How to clean the cans? I bought some Halo canned food to substitute for dry one meal a day. My pet loves your food, but it’s impossible to clean the cans for recycling. Any suggestions? I hate throwing metal in the trash. Thanks!

Answer by ChewyApr 03, 2018
Warm water and a bottle cleaner or spatula should work. You don’t have to get items clean enough to store food or eat from, so you don’t necessarily have to use so much water that they are sterilized or completely grime free.

Why there is no added taurine and carnitine in a vegan dog food?

Answer by ChewyOct 30, 2019
Although it is not listed in the ingredients this food does contain added Taurine. The Taurine and L-carnitine in Halo Vegan diets are not of animal origin.

In the ingredients is listed Natural Flavors ..What is the natural flavor? Most of the time that can mean hidden msg.. Just want to make sure that is not the case with this food. Thank you

Answer by ChewyFeb 18, 2019
The natural flavor is derived from the vegetables in the ingredients. Halo's recipes do not contain any hormones or antibiotics, as well as no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Even though I’ve complained numerous times, still getting bent cans. Don’t know if that’s affecting the quality of the food, but I’m picking out suspicious looking discolored food. I have used these canned foods for several years and hate to give up on them, but the last 6 months or longer the food has looked different and suspicious with discolored spots and super hard spots. This will be my last case of this brand canned.

My dog will eat this, but there are chunks of suspiciously solid chunks that feel like uncooked potato. That is not healthy. I am debating whether to continue feeding this. Not sure that it’s healthy or safe.My dog is allergic to everything. When his prescription vegetarian went out of stock it became difficult to find a decent food. (He’s even allergic to insect protein and also needs soft foods). I know about these uncooked chunks because he sometimes needs hand feeding. He’s a rescue that has jaw and tongue issues due to being left in a too small muzzle 24/7 for no reason at all. He has to be fed by hand when he has flare ups. Those hard chunks are an issue for him and if it is uncooked potato, it’s an issue for all dogs.

We substituted this when the other Halo item we normally use was out of stock. It REALLY did not agree with our Basset Hound. He had major digestive upset after 2 additions of this. It wasn’t that he didn’t like it per se. It just didn’t like him. My personal opinion, the texture on this is akin to very dense hummus. There’s no moisture at all. I think the formula needs adjusted. We will go back to our normal variety now that it’s in stock. I hate to discard food, but I can’t in good conscience donate the unused cans knowing it will disagree with some dogs. Pricey loss but I feel better not causing another dog discomfort.

Lola has been on a prescription diet due to skin allergies (sensitivity to some animal proteins). However, the wet version of the prescription food has been unavailable for quite some time. She does best when taking her medications with a little bit of wet food, so I opted for some with no animal protein. She gobbles it and her pills. Win-win.

Been buying Halo vegan for four years as a topper from different retailers. The quality has gone down hill, each purchase having more and more hard chunks. I can tap on granite and it makes noise hard! I threw the rest of the cans away in case I miss smaller hard bits. I called Halo and I was underwhelmed by their response. The lights were on, but no one was home. If you want to spend 4.66 per can and throw away 1/3 of it, then this is the food for you.

Food for Coco

Coco got to where she just wouldn't eat this at all, unless she got very hungry, which means going two or three days without eating.

My dog didn't like but he is a picky eater. Apparently from the other reviews, other dogs like. It does have good ingredients.

Delicious -- dog loves it

The first time a box of these showed up at my house, my dog tore it open. Two years later, he's still almost as excited for it.
