Feeding Instructions

We recommend feeding ¼ to ½ cup per day to adult ferrets split over two to three meals. Feeding rates will vary depending upon the age, sex, and weight. These recommendations should be adjusted based upon your ferret’s body condition, health condition, life stage, activity and environment temperature. Remove uneaten food and clean food dish before refilling with new food. Always maintain fresh drinking water for your pet ferret. For kits, feed free-choice before and after weaning. Kits start to eat solid food at three to four weeks of age and should have free access to moistened and dry food until weaning. Pregnant and lactating females (Jills) should be offered at least two to three times the amounts shown in the table.

Kit's Age (Weeks) Food Per Day (Cups)
1-2 1/3 cup
2-6 1/3 to 3/4 cup
6-12 3/4 to 1 cup
Transition Instructions

Switching from your current food to any new ferret food should be a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days to reduce any digestive upsets that occur due to a change in diet. Feed 25% of the new food with 75% of the current food for 2 to 3 days. This should be followed by 50% of each food for 2 to 3 days. This should be followed by 75% of the new food with 25% of the current food for 2 to 3 days. After this time, your ferret will be 100% on inTune.

    Decent ferret food

By KMFerretRescue on Nov 4, 2021

I run a ferret rescue. This is a good, decent food for the price. There are lots of foods that are a lot better (Wysong Epigen Digestive Support, Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein, Young Again Zero, Nature's Variety Instinct Ultimate Protein chicken cat food, Pretty Pets Natural Gold ferret food). However, they are also considerably more expensive. We use this at the rescue along with Epigen, NVI, Pretty Pets and Marshall's.

    GREAT FOOD

By Maryann on Oct 14, 2021

This Ferret food is great. It hardened my ferrets stools, they are no longer runny. He feels better and it has less sugar and carbs than most other ferret kibble. It is great.

    amazing food

By lexi on Jul 29, 2021

Both my ferrets love this food. I've had such a hard time switching their diets because they're so picky and this is the only thing they've gone crazy over and won't give me a problem with. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but My one ferret was struggling with gaining weight and had hair loss. Almost a month later after switching to this diet, she has put the weight back on and her hair is thick and shiny.

    Terrible food

    By Jen1118 on Apr 13, 2021

Thought we would try because the ingredients sounded good. But when we received the food and opened the bag omg what a nasty smelling food. My little ones wanted nothing to do with it and we threw the whole bag away.

    Great quality

By mell on Apr 7, 2021

My babies love this stuff, like honestly can't get enough of it. When I got my ferrets 2 out of 3 were under weight. With this stuff in a matter of 2 months all 3 of them are at a healthy weight. Would recommend!

By LeoandStella on Feb 19, 2021

My 2 ferrets have been on this brand mixed with 2 others since they were 3 months old. One of the best ingredient lists I have found, ferrets love it and it shined up their coat and has them full of energy! Thank you Higgins!

    Finally affordable GOOD ferret food!

By Hans on Feb 9, 2021

I've tried many kinds/brands of ferret "kibble" and Higgins is the best. My FOUR ferrets love it and have no digestive issues with it. I'm just disappointed that it always gets 'sold out' even on my auto-ship so I end up having to get Zupreem which is nice but more expensive.
