What is the calcium to phosphorus ratio, please?

How many lbs of fresh food is this equivalent to and can you add broth instead of water? Thank you.
Answer by ChewyDec 22, 2022
The 2-lb box contains about 8 pounds of of fresh food, the 4-lb box contains about 16 pounds of of fresh food, the 7-pound box contains about 28 pounds of fresh food and the 10-pound box contains about 40 pounds of of fresh food.

I like to ensure the animals raised to feed my dog have a good life. I don't know what "ranch raised beef" means, and I couldn't find a industry standard definition. Could you define how the cattle are treated? What do they eat? Are they pastured or raised in doors? Are they overcrowded?
Answer by ChewyNov 07, 2018
Honest Kitchen ensures that meat animals are raised according to USDA guidelines for treatment according to human consumption standards. This means no 4-D meat (dying, diseased, disabled, deceased animals) ever lands in their pet food. The beef is from a variety of different ranches throughout the Midwest and California. A portion of the beef is range/grass fed and the remainder are fed a grain based diet. Some of their products include Wagyu Beef, raised using a slow-feeding phase of over 400 days. Wagyu beef is fed an all-vegetarian diet and handled with strict care protocols throughout the entire production system. Their beef meat is free of added hormones and antibiotics.

Are the potatoes cooked before being dehydrated? I see in a previous answer that they’re ‘flash heated’ but does that mean cooked?
Answer by ChewyAug 20, 2019
The potatoes in this dehydrated dog food is not technically cooked. The potatoes used in this Honest Kitchen formula are cleaned, steam peeled and flash heated to help break down the cellulose content. The potatoes are then gently dehydrated to remove moisture.

Pebbles loves her new grain free beef flavor honest kitchen dog food. Her bowl is licked clean when she's done eating and can't wait until feeding time again.

Dogs like it but

I like that HK is clean, but it’s not perfect! I agree with the other reviews about it being mushy. I use a little less water and add a tablespoon or two of ground protein to it to give it texture. If I am giving them the beef, I add ground beef. If I’m giving them the chicken, I add ground chicken etc. I simply cook a pound of it in my crockpot and it last a few days in the fridge. Easy enough to heat up too. My picky eater loves real food over kibble, so this works better for us. However, the little one is over weight which means I have to track their portions and calories. A little harder to do with this food, but it can be done.

Healthy but not tasty

This is such a healthy food for my pup. Unfortunately, he just won’t eat it. He is on some new cardiac meds that seem to be affecting his sense of taste and/or smell and I just can’t get him to eat it. I’m so disappointed. Ingredients are great but aroma seems to be lacking.

Not as favorable as the chicken

My dogs didn't like it as much compared to the chicken. So I'll stick with the chicken.

Dog approved

My dog adores this food. The beef makes the food very gelatinous, but she doesn't care at all. It's extremely expensive, but she needed a food without peas/lentils, and this was one of the few she would eat.
