Questions & Answers

8 Customer Questions

so which ingredient on the ingredient list keeps this product shelf stable prior to opening.
Answer by ChewyMay 10, 2021
Rather than ingredients, it's more to do with the way that The Honest Kitchen products are packaged. The containers and the fact that they're packaged without letting any air in allows for a long shelf life. This is similar to chicken or turkey broths that you would find in the grocery store.

Where do all the ingredients come from and where is it made? Is anything in it from China?
Answer by ChewyMay 28, 2020
This food is made in the USA. The Honest Kitchen will source the majority of ingredients from the US however, they do not source any ingredients from China.

Homemade chicken stew

After my dog had pancreatitis for the second time. This is the only thing he will eat now. He loves it.

Great container but hard to open.

My dogs really like this food but since it is so runny, I have to mix it in with other dry food. We like the ingredients.

Too thin comes out like water

Dog food comes out like water the dog wants to eat not drink

my dogs like it

This is not a bad product for my two small dogs. I use a scissors to open and always respect the use by dates on the box. I find that I need to mix this with HK kibble otherwise it makes my Papillon has messy #2’s from food that is too soft, but my senior chihuahua does amazing with it.

convenient and tasty but...

The dogs ate this stew right away and ate it all. However, the only complaint I have is that it was difficult to get all of the stew out of the container even using a spatula.

One pot stews

Dogs like it, but packaging very messy and difficult to open. Texture of food looks like something I've cleaned up off the carpet before. Will go back to Merrick's.

It was a hit!

I have a very picky greyhound and I’ve been looking for something to make her meals more interesting. I also wanted something less processed than regular dog food. I switched her food to the chicken and oat clusters, with the chicken stew as a topper. She devours it and then keeps going back to her bowl to see if more magically appeared. I’m a customer for life!

Honest Kitchen - One Pot Stews, Slow Cooked Chicken

Most "Human Grade" dog foods come refrigerated or frozen to ensure freshness; which is a good thing. The Honest Kitchen, packages their product in well sealed plastic coated cardboard. And can be stored in your pantry. This is a great alternative which provides a "Back up", in the event your electric power is somehow shut down. Or maybe your fridge/freezer lacks the capacity to store your pets food. The One Pot Slow Cooked Chicken Stew, would be great if you feed it as a "Topper" over dry kibble. I purchased the Stew, to see what it looked like, how it smelled, was it moist and was it appealing to my dog. She did seem to like the taste but knowing it was too watery, I had to add another brand, to make the consistency thicker. Yes, I would recommend their Slow Cooken Chicken Stew. But I will probably purchase their PATE's because I rarely use kibble in her meals. And the consistency of their Stew is simply to fluid.
