MadeHonest for True Nutrition

The team at The Honest Kitchen came up with a whole new method to create their 100% human grade dog food. They call it MadeHonest, and it means they cold press every small batch of fresh meat and produce in their own custom kitchen, then slow bake and gently dehydrate it. This process locks in natural nutrition and gives the food a taste your dog will love.

Clean Ingredients and No Meat Meals

No meat meals here—only high-quality muscle meat and liver protein go into these clusters. They also contain low-glycemic carbs, healthy fats, and live probiotics to support good digestion and nutrient absorption. Each ingredient is thoughtfully chosen with a purpose, to help contribute to your dog’s overall health and well-being.

Questions & Answers

How many cups are in a 20 pound bag? Or the smaller bag?

Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2020
There is approximately 4 cups in a pound. The 1 pound contains approximately 4 cups of dog food, the 5 pound contains approximately 20 cups of food, and the 20 bag contains approximately 80 cups of food.

How are the chickens or meat raised?

Answer by ChewyNov 10, 2021
The animals are raised according to USDA guidelines for treatment according to human consumption standards. This ensures no 4-D meat (dying, diseased, disabled, deceased animals) ever lands in our pet food. The chicken used in the line of dehydrated whole foods for pets, as well as the Proper Toppers, cookies and the chicken liver in Clusters, is sourced from Pitman Family Farms and Petaluma Poultry. The chicken from these suppliers is 100% USDA certified free range, meeting or exceeding GAP standards, and fed no antibiotics ever. The birds have access to the outdoors where they can scratch for food and are fed a supplemental diet of vegetables and grains (absolutely no animal products of any kind are used in their feed). These chicken ranchers also follow Dr. Temple Grandin’s animal welfare practices, which help to ensure that the birds are treated respectfully throughout their lives and experience minimal stress. Dr. Grandin's guidelines also ensure that the animals are handled with patience, skill and respect, housed in clean, well designed facilities.

Are all of the ingredients from the USA?

Answer by ChewyNov 05, 2020
The Honest Kitchen uses U.S. origin ingredients whenever they can, but not all ingredients they use are easily grown within the United States. In all cases where their ingredients are grown overseas, they are cleaned, screened and processed here domestically. Both their domestic and overseas ingredients also undergo rigorous testing for contaminants here in the U.S, in accordance with human food standards.

What percentage of the protein comes from animal sources?

Answer by ChewyJan 20, 2021
The AAFCO Nutrient Profile for The Honest Kitchen recipes does not differentiate between animal and plant based proteins (as this is not an AAFCO requirement), but the average amount of animal protein across their line is approximately 70%.

Great with her sensitive tummy!

Very satisfied with the food! The food is dehydrated, so it's not cooked at extreme high temperatures, which would make it rock hard and even harder on them to chew

Very satisfied with the food! The food is dehydrated, so it's not cooked at extreme high temperatures, which would make it rock hard and even harder on them to chew and digest. You may have some dust in the bottom of the bag due to the gentle process of manufacturing. It's not a waste though, all you do is just measure it out, add a little bit of water to make a mushy treat that the dog absolutely loves! My dog no longer has acid reflux, tinky burps or mucus poop, which are all signs of irritation in digestion. She also no longer struggles to have bowel movements.

My dogs love this food.m

I have fed my dogs kibble for years and I’m always at the vet. My dogs get allergies. I wanted something more healthier for them. This food has real ingredients

I have fed my dogs kibble for years and I’m always at the vet. My dogs get allergies. I wanted something more healthier for them. This food has real ingredients that they love. And they actually go crazy for this food and eat every bit. It is more pricier than my dogs old kibble. But I think it’s worth it.

Excellent quality

Fairly limited ingredient list and high quality. Lydia's poohs are quite solid. The only complaint is that the food easily crumbles (due to minimal processing)

Fairly limited ingredient list and high quality. Lydia's poohs are quite solid. The only complaint is that the food easily crumbles (due to minimal processing) and there will be at least a cup or 2 of " sand" at bottom of bag. It is also rather expensive. However, Lydia thrives on it. There is also a large selection of products with Honest Kitchen.

Have always loved this dogfood but..

I’ve given my dog this for years and I know ppl have complained about the crumble powder in bag I’ve never had a problem with that as I’ve always use the powder

I’ve given my dog this for years and I know ppl have complained about the crumble powder in bag I’ve never had a problem with that as I’ve always use the powder for making dog biscuits. I mean you’re going to have powder in any bag that is dehydrated cause it’s dehydrated, my problem seems to be in the inconsistency of the dehydration meaning one bag may be perfectly easy to add the water n break up the nuggets for her to eat after a few minutes then another bag I’ll get and I can have the water (which is warm mind you) sit in the food for 15 minutes and it’s still not breakable so for that alone I’m gonna be finding a different dogfood cause I don’t understand why there is the inconsistency other than that it’s a great food my dog (11) has always loved

yummy

The dog loved this. I like the human grade ingredients. The kibble is a nice size, not too big, but not those tiny balls, either. I don't like the smaller kibbles

Like many reviewers pointed out - everything is good about this food but the one major issue I have (and the reason why I ended up finding another brand) is that the bottom of the bag is all powder! I can understand some powder at the bottom being normal but my last two shipments had about 20% powder! This is really a deal breaker and I hope the honest kitchen can address it.

An old address showed up when I ordered and I didn’t realize that the order would end up there. The customer service representative sent me a new order very quickly. And the best part is, the woman who bought our previous home has 2 small dogs and surely can use this product.

I have a finicky hound dog with lots of digestive issues when science diet ID changed the formula. I had a hard time finding a foodthat he would eat. I tried another couple of high-end brands. He was just finicky about it. He wouldn’t touch it. This one he loves it sits and smells every inch of the bowl. Looks at it for about two minutes and then he eats it and savers every bite.
