Questions & Answers

26 Customer Questions

Is this food available in puppy formula or all the same since it is dehydrated?

Answer by Cockers5Jul 21, 2023
This question is from last year but the other answer is incorrect. This formula is NOT approved for puppies. Per AAFCo statement is it adult maintenance only. Please look at the AAFCO statement for all life stage if feeding to a small or medium breed puppy. If large breed them statement needs to state for growth of large breeds.

Are the ingredients also sourced in the USA?

Answer by ChewyJul 29, 2021
The Honest Kitchen try to use U.S. origin ingredients whenever they can, but not all ingredients they use are grown within the United States. Currently, just over 67% of their ingredients are of US origin, as they also use some which are grown overseas. Their green beans, celery, and spinach are from Europe. Their organic fair-trade quinoa is from Bolivia, papaya is from Thailand, bananas and organic coconut are from the Philippines, and organic kelp is from Iceland. The Honest Kitchen source absolutely nothing from China, and this even includes the individual components of their vitamin-mineral premix.

Can you mix up and leave in refrigerator for a day or so.

Answer by MelodySep 04, 2025
Yes, you can make and refrigerate Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog food for 2-3 days after it has been rehydrated, but it's crucial to treat it like fresh food once water is added and consume it within that timeframe. For longer storage, you can freeze the rehydrated food in individual portions. My dog will only eat this when it is warm so I just add a bit of hot water from the kettle and stir to bring it up in temperature a bit.

What does ranch raised beef mean? Are the cows grass fed or corn fed?

Answer by ChewyFeb 23, 2021
The Honest Kitchen beef is from a variety of different ranches throughout the Midwest and California. A portion of their beef is range/grass fed and the remainder are fed a grain based diet. Some of their products include Wagyu Beef, raised using a slow-feeding phase of over 400 days. Wagyu beef is fed an all-vegetarian diet and handled with strict care protocols throughout the entire production system. All of their beef meat is free of added hormones and antibiotics. The Honest Kitchen hopes to transition to a steady supply of grass-fed beef in the future. Their recent partnership with a pastured beef from a ranch on the Midwestern Prairie, is an important step towards this goal.

Im starting to look for a new food for my 6 year old doodle so I can get away from the high-heat wet food I've used for years. This was my first attempt and it went terribly. First, it's the box with 10 individual packets in it and there is nowhere on the box that gives me serving size for the size of the dog. I looked all around the box 5 times thinking...it has to be on there, what company wouldn't include that very important information?! Honest Kitchen, that's who. It's not on the individual packets and not on the box. No clue how much to give my 15lb dog. This was beyond frustrating so this experience already started out poorly for me. I googled how much to use and made it with the warm water in a mug. I put it in front of her to see if she liked the smell before putting it in the bowl, and she literally shook her head back and forth like I've never seen her do, and ran away! I tried again, aggressive shake of the head and ran away. I tried adding a small amount to her regular food and she picked out her regular food and ate that. So this one was not a winner with her. And the company really needs to add the serving size instructions by the dog's weight to the box!! Not just how to make the food...but how much to feed your dog, this is so important!

My pups are loving this food. I make them human food elsewise for their breakfast, and this goes on their kibble at dinner because they look at me funny when they don't get ground turkey, rice, and mixed vegetables for dinner, too. Seems like great quality and I appreciate it is dehydrated - travels easier than the food I make for them!

I've been using this food for at least a couple of years and it has kept my dog healthy and happy, but ALSO my dog sitter pointed out that his poop doesn't smell! I know it's a random fact that may not be determinative for you, but it sure is nice... :) I only really. notice it when I'm around other dogs' poo and it STINKS! :) Good luck to you and your pups.

This food used to be more than half the price because they used to ship twice the amount for less $$. Now they send it already ground up, which is great but in a 10 pound box instead of a 20 pound bag. Does it double in size I’m not sure.. I want my dogs to have good quality food because kibble is garbage but right now with the economy the way it is my dog food costs more than mine and I can barely feed my own family so unfortunately I feel like the price on this food is just way too much. I have five small dogs, four of them are around 10 pounds or less and one is 20 pounds and I went through a 10 pound box in two weeks. I tried to stick with the serving size they said, but my dogs needed a little bit more than what it called for which was a tiny amount if you can afford it, I would recommend it. My dogs had regular bowel movements on it and they seemed happy and healthy. Five stars for quality, 1 star for price.

I had high hopes for this food because it seems to be high quality, but my dogs will not eat it. It appears to be mostly grains with no meat to be seen and perhaps this is the reason they won't eat it or maybe I got a bad batch. I even tried adding beef and turkey and they still won't touch it. I fed it by itself and as a topper on kibble. They will eat the kibble and leave the HK in their bowls.
